Toll transponders for KS, OK, TX
Hi. We are heading to Texas from MN soon and learned that we will be on some tollways. If I get a K tag will it also work in OK and TX? Or would it be better to get a transponder from either OK or TX. We will be in a class C towing a car. Any advice concerning transponder placement and if we also need one for the car is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not sure about the K tag, but the TXtag works in Texas and Oklahoma. I know that for a fact. We live in Texas and got the TXtag for travel to Austin and Dallas, Ft. Worth. Last fall when heading to Ohio we got on the OK Turnpike and I was reaching for my wallet when the gate opened and the sign read TXtag recognized.
I keep the TXtag - which is a small RFID flat tag on my MH windshield right next to my North Carolina Quick Pass/EZ Pass. The NC Quick Pass works in all EZ Pass states plus a couple of others in Florida, etc. Also, the NC Quick Pass costs only $7 per pass (the large kind) works automatically on RVs towing and has no extra fees. The two passes don't interfere with each other on the windshield.
I just looked up where the TXtag works. Here's a quote from the website:
Quote:
With a TxTag on your windshield, you can travel on toll roads throughout Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

K-TAG is free. Your trips will be read electronically and your tolls charged to your K-TAG account. You'll also save up to 25% on every trip vs paying cash. K-TAG works on toll roads in Oklahoma and Texas making regional travel easier.

The North Texas Toll Authority tag, call “TollTag,” can be used on any toll road in TX, OK and KS. No fee for the tag, you have options for funding your account. We have ours set up to automatically refund with a credit card with another $40 when it gets down to $10. YMMV

I was not aware that there were any toll roads in Kansas. I lived there about 30 years ago (in Salina) and travelled regularly to Manhattan and never saw any tolls. Even on trips to Kansas City, MO I never saw any tolls. I suppose things change, but where is busy enough that users would be willing to pay tolls?

The Kansas Turnpike was built in the mid-50’s and has been a toll road continuously since then. It runs roughly west from Kansas City, through Topeka and turns southwest down through Wichita and then south to the Oklahoma line. It’s a really good highway and has lots of traffic!
You must have stayed off of I-70 between Topeka and Kansas City ... it’s part of the Kansas Turnpike and hence has a toll.

I used to drive between Salina and Kansas City on I-70 and that goes through Topeka, but I guess I was never on the Kansas Turnpike. Live and learn.
Thanks for the information.

When I moved to Kansas in 1963, I-70 from Bonner Springs to Topeka was part of the Kansas Turnpike. Tolls then were a bit less than now, no doubt.

We've driven between MN and TX a couple times recently and only had a toll in OK. The cost for the motorhome and toad wasn't very much so we didn't worry about setting up any passes. We just pay at the stop.

Pike Pass
I have an Oklahoma Pike Pass works in Kanasa, Oklahoma and all of the Texas Toll Roads. Just be sure you have it by axle count, as it’ll count them and if your towing a toad also with a Pass installed it’ll double bill you

Lifetime KC Kansas/Leavenworth resident here. Confirming the K-Tag works in all 3 states, (supposed to be working on national), and that the KS Turnpike has been around since the '50s. I grew up 3 blocks from it when the eastern tollgate was clear in at 38th ST. in KCK. Now it's about 8-10 miles further west.
They just finished installing high-speed K-Tag entrances/exits on the east and southern ends, so you don't even have to slow down to enter or exit. I believe Topeka now has one also....

FYI, when traveling across Kansas here is where you may use the Kansas Turnpike ...
I-70: the segment between the east side of Topeka and the west side of Kansas City metro
I-35: the segment between Emporia KS and Wichita KS
I-35: the segment between Wichita KS and the Oklahoma border.
