Thinking of Canada eh!!!

We know gas is going to be expensive, but the wife wants to go. So I thought I would ask for others experience while traveling through Ontario to Montreal?

We are currently heading to Forest City, IA for some repair work and a visit to the Winnebago facility, then its up North we go....we will attempt a route after Montreal through Maine, RI, NY and Washington DC to visit family, before heading back home to Arizona.. I know that's a lot of driving, camping and adventures.

Appreciate you experiences

From Forest City...come North into MN. I 35 will take you right into Duluth and you can start the Lake Superior Circle Route up through Canada to Sault Saint Marie. There are many beautiful campgrounds up along Minnesota's North Shore, that is the most beautiful part of the trip in my opinion...so try to allow extra time if possible to see the water falls.

If you go thru Sault Saint Marie, look into the Aune Osborne Campground. It is city owned and on the St. Mary's river entrance to the Soo Locks. Lake freighters pass about 100 yards off shore.

If you do chose to travel through Duluth try this for a camp ground.
http://www.lakeheadboatbasin.com/rv.html
In the Winter they park boats there and in the Summer they have camp sites. You're very close to the harbor and you can watch the ships come and go.
Also it is very convenient to walk across the lift bridge and see all the sites on Canal Street.
Duluth has a lot to see.

seems like a side trip to Hibbing to pay respects to old Robert Zimmerman might be in order since you're so close...

I had to look that up. Interesting fact I did not know about. Also know in high school as Zimmy. Won a Nobel Prize for literature in 2016. The city in the Iron Range seems to have been left out of the line light. However you my friend must be a Rock n Toll historian or a huge fan. Very cool either way.

Make sure you have proof of Covid19 vaccinations, to be fully vaccinated you need to have had at least two shots to get into Canada. Get the Arrive Can app and fill in the details before hitting the border. NO firearms. Fill up with gas before crossing into Ontario, gas is cheaper in the US. Have fun in our country.

Welcome to Canada

Ontario is a beautiful province and has a lot to offer in the way of site seeing. The north Superior Route is pretty barren..... lots of rocks and trees and rivers. Check out southern Ontario as well and before you head off into Quebec, you might brush up on your French........ all signage is in French... no English translations.

Thank you Trevor, very good information and we have our vac cards. I will download the Arrive Can app. As you suggested. Fill tank in the US, a must.

Thanks again and we are looking forward to visiting Canada 🇨🇦

Here is a link to the general 2022 Alaska travels:
https://www.irv2.com/forums/f295/ala...-a-551743.html

In mid-July, we are taking the route West from Buffalo across Canada so would be interested if you go that way.

In Massachusetts, you will find Normandy Farms Campground the best but very very hard to get into. Best to call. There are several good campgrounds near Sturbridge Mass. See my reviews in Campendium under Noah4448 for other places we have stayed alone I95. IN DC this is a good camp ground although lots of mosquitos: https://www.reserveamerica.com/explo...20011/overview

Minnesotans spend long winters cooped up inside so when it starts warming up they go camping so start making reservations!

Be sure to have your passport or certified birth certificate with you. We went to the border at eastern Washington last week. We found that the enhanced license issued by Arizona does not qualify at the border. We were in our pickup and since we were only going in for a few hours the Canadian Border Patrol let us in. However when we returned to the US crossing we were told again our license didn't qualify and had to answer several questions before we were let in. This was just a short trip to see if our license would work. It was at a very small crossing and we won't try again without the right documents especially when we cross with our Outlook.

If you know where you are going to enter Ontario that would be a big help.
Campgrounds here in Ontario fill up pretty fast during the summer months. We have to book 5 months in advance to get into most of our Provincial Parks. A lot of the private parks also are full during the summer. If you know your route you may want to book ahead at the campgrounds.

When you go to Quebec if you get a chance, visit Old Quebec City. We stayed at a campground (https://campingtransit.com/en/ in Levis, Quebec and took the ferry over to Old Quebec City

We are heading towards Sault Ste Marie. We may just head down towards Toronto. Gas is pricey in Canada and not sure we want to stay more then 1 tank of gas. Lol.
