Today we heard a thump kind of sound coming from the driver's side of the motor home when we were traveling down the road. The sound was not constant. We would hear it when we started out from a stop and then maybe a couple of times more as we traveled. There was not any wind. Anyone have a clue as to what can be causing the sound?

WE had this problem on ours. Turned out to be a loose leveling jack.

Check to see if something might be loose in one of your storage bays. I had this happen and that's what it was.

Hi Motorhome 5. Some of us have had the same problem with the thumping sound coming from the rear driver side. In most cases it was the metal mudflap flexing in the wind. Check it out to see if it's loose. It's hard to pin point because the wind has to hit it at a certain angle.

Good luck
Tom

Hi All, I had a similar problem on my 1994 Brave. I was on a trip out west and it just about drove us nuts until I had the folks at Forest City take a look at it. It came to be that the shock on the right side was hitting the chassis and causing a knocking sound. It was more pronounced when I took off and came to a stop. It was also noticable when I turned a corner. Jest to be sure, check around the shock area and you may find metal rubbing and causing a noise. I installed a new shock and problem solved. Good luck. I forgot to tell you that we are in an 05 36' Vectra. Diesel. The sound is coming from the front. We did notice today that we will need to put silicone around the window by the driver. Has anyone heard of that window becoming loose? Thanks for all the replies. Dear hubby will be checking the shocks and jacks.

Motorhome05~ I had the same noise, mine was the right front mud flap hitting the area under the passenger seat. Mine only occurs when we are driving into a head wind, for us usually crossing the desert. If you look under the coach you'll see the scuff marks left by the flap.

Motorhome05, others have reported success in reducing wind noise by using black electrical tape over the exterior gaps; whistling/hissing was stopped and tape was always removable if needed.

I'd go along with the others in checking the mudflap first. Intermitten thumps and bumps can be a bear to find.

Good luck
