In San Diego, today, some folks vacationing from L.A., were trying to launch their boat in Misson Bay and OPPS.......the RV got launched also. Watch the video: http://video.nbcsandiego.com/player/?id=286377
Should be a short ad before the story. Me thinks the RV is going to be totaled. So sorry for the owners.

Seen it with cars and trucks hooked to boats, but never an RV. Did see a tow truck pull a Winnebago off the beach in Long Beach WA just as the tide lapped the underside. Wow!

I was wondering how you would sucessfully launch a boat with an RV since the ramps are notoriously slippery with water and algae growth.
Most people use HD or 4x4 trucks since sometimes the rear wheels can't pull you out by themselves. It is also a BAD idea to have your rear wheels/brakes submerged.
I wonder if they got the rear drums wet and forgot to set the parking brakes or if it just slipped on the surface.
Bummer.

The best way that I have seen is to have a hitch receiver placed on the front of the MH. That keeps your drive wheels high and dry. It also makes maneuvering easier.

Folks learned a valuable lesson today. Leave the camping with boats to the truck camper folks. Our "motorhomes" have the home part removable .

Who was the driver? Robbin Williams.
Couldn't let that one go. At least they are ok.

I ramp launched my 17' sailboat during the 1970s and early 1980s with my Winnebago and Pace Arrow motorhomes. I never had a problem. I don't do that anymore--no more sailboat--now our motorhome is larger--and I'm 75 years old.

Or pull the boat behind a fith wheel, drop the trailer at the CG and THEN take to boat to thr launch. This is how my uncle does it and it works well.
One thing I've never figured out though is how anyone lets their vehicle get THAT far into the water. I can understand if you start to slip alittle bit. But I would think once you start to slip you'd hit the brakes and get some help. The front brakes on any vehicle should be enough to hold it on the ramp. I've seen this happen to several trucks and always wonder how they get way out there like that.

I've seen that happen around our lakes here in Oklahoma and Arkansas, and usually the driver thinks they have left the vehicle turned off in gear but its in neutral or they haven't set the emergency brake good enough. Then when they start to unload the boat the vehicle starts to roll out into the lake but nothing the driver can do by that time. Usually no problem with a slippery ramp or wet brakes, just carelessness on the part of the unloader. Too much excitement or hurryedness to get into the water, and they do.

I heard this on the news this morning, but missed the video. I knew I could count on someone from iRV2 to post it for us. On the TV news it said the brakes failed (wet?). The commmentator on this video link said the husband was on the boat and the wife was driving the motorhome. As the primary driver of our motorhome, I can feel for her. Hope they have good insurance.

Well at least it looks like they launched the boat without taking it under.

Back a few months ago I heard of a boater who dropped his boat and went and parked but when he tried to go, the boat would hardly go! Turns out that he never took the trailer off and was trying to go with it still strapped to the boat!!!
The boat didn't sink!! Crazy you want...crazy you get!! Have a great one, Dan

I wonder if he bought it at Shipp's RV and thought it was amphibious?
