First post and first time driving from Niagara to Dexter. We don't want to drive the coast route 295 because we will be traveling that road on the way home. Can you help us to decide which road to take with a 36' motorhome and tow car, through NY, VT, NH, and ME?
Hello - We live in Maine; transplanted from New Jersey awhile back.
We learned quickly that the roads in northern Maine are not always paved, especially north of Moosehead Lake or Rangely. Some logging roads are owned by large paper companies and their huge log trucks have the right of way. So if the road is narrow and the truck is coming from the opposite direction, you must move over to let them pass. Recommend you stick to the primary roads, use your RV GPS (if you have one) and consider buying a Maine Gazetteer.
If you are planning to visit Mt Washington in NH you could try US 2 West (paved, 2 lanes, double yellow line) to Newport, ME, then north on Rt 7 to Dexter. Safe Travels!
