Monterey hiking and kayaking - Trip Report

Here's our trip report from Monterey in late June, probably our last time to visit in 2021. We visited Moss Landing, Elkhorn Slough, Point Lobos and Ribara Beach.

Looks like a great trip, that area is one of our favorites but we haven't been there in a few years. How was the campsite availability? Did you notice what it was anyplace other than the Moss Landing KOA?

It was pretty full the week we were there. My wife kept checking availability and found a cancellation, I think. We can usually manage to get into moss landing. I believe it is the only RV site in Moss Landing. There are several places closer to Monterey, but we like the feel here.

The city of Watsonville has a nice small RV area at the south end of Pinto Lake park and I have never seen it full at any time of the year. The Monterey County fairgrounds also has RV facilities and it is off the radar except when there are shows going on there.

Many years ago, about twenty, we camped at the Laguna Seca race track and drove into Monterrey which is less than ten miles away. There was no race going on (thank goodness, it would have been a madhouse) but it was nice to watch the cars practicing just below our campsite, which looks something like the following shot: https://images.app.goo.gl/msPhLvVTEufAgEuw9

Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll keep that in mind if we can’t get into Moss landing.
