We travel to and from MN & FL. If you wish to avoid Atlanta take I-65 to Montgomery AL. From Montgomery you have two choices, take USTH-82 to Tifton GA and pickup
I-75 into FL. Or, you can take USTH-231 from Montgomery to I-10 and I-10 to I-75. Both USTH-82 & USTH-231 are four lane. We prefer taking USTH-82, as you have one less large town to drive through (Dothan AL). Either route beats going through Atlanta or using the by-pass around it.

I live in Atlanta. So if for some reason you must go thru,do so early a.m or late p.m. Smart people take I-285 around to either I-75 or I-85.

I agree with Hugh. The Georgia DOT has a website, Georgia 511 that will tell you of any incidents. I recommend taking I-285 if at all possible. Having driven thru downtown on 75/85 it do not recommend it to out of state drivers. Lot's of exit only lanes and most importantly, impatient drivers. Lot's of trucks on 285, but still a better option.

Going through on Sunday is a lot easier. We try to hit large cities on weekends if possible

I plan on leaving NE Minnesota 29th for Florida. I also prefer to bypass Atlanta unless going through early weekend morning. Headed for Pine Island area near ft Myers. Safe travels

Safe travels. Should you decide to come thru Atlanta (even on a Sunday), be sure to check the website I sent earlier. There have been a number of road projects underway in this area and they only work on them on the weekends.

Went south on I75 in early October and there was about 80 miles (might be an exaggeration) of construction in northern Ohio where for much of the way, trucks and RVs were forced to drive in the left lane narrowed by jersey bars for construction in the median area. The right lane had the shoulder paved to make it wide enough but had a sharp fall-off. I'd vote for 65 if that construction is still underway. Didn't look to me like it would be completed before winter.
