Water Pump Running Continuously

Posted 11-17-2021 at 11:58 AM by HiBanky

In my 2005 Journey there is a SurFlow 3 chamber water pump that runs when the pressure drops below some predetermined point. The exact point is unknown to me but probably something like 20 to 30 PSI. If the system is tight, meaning no leaks at all, it will not come on without opening a faucet or flushing the toilet. If there is a tiny leak, it will come on briefly every hour or so. I lived with the tiny leak scenario for two years but then it began to run nearly continuously and air would spit from the faucets occasionally. So it was easy to conclude the leak got worse. Also, the air indicated the leak was between the tank and the pump. I pulled the Pump and there’s where I got a little lucky. It was definitely the source of the leak because the screws that hold it all together were loose. I took it apart to see if there was any other issues and found some calcium deposits. A soak in CLR and some brushing cleaned it right up. I carefully reassembled being sure the diagrams were seated in the right places. It is working like new again.
