Water Pump Running Continuously

Posted 11-17-2021 at 11:58 AM by HiBanky

In my 2005 Journey there is a SurFlow 3 chamber water pump that runs when the pressure drops below some predetermined point. The exact point is unknown to me but probably something like 20 to 30 PSI. If the system is tight, meaning no leaks at all, it will not come on without opening a faucet or flushing the toilet. If there is a tiny leak, it will come on briefly every hour or so. I lived with the tiny leak scenario for two years but then it began to run nearly continuously and air would spit from...

Broken Tri-Mark door handle

Posted 11-16-2021 at 02:24 PM by HiBanky

My 2005 Journey and probably many other RV has a Tri-Mark 17217 Exterior Door Latch. One sunny day I reach up and pulled the handle only to find it did nothing to open the door. No amount of fiddling around with it did anything to give me access to the coach. Fortunately I left a window unlock and with the aid of the ladder I left out, I manage to get inside to open the door. With out hesitation, I removed and disassembled the door handle and quickly found the cause.
There is a boss cast...

New Springs for your Leveling Jack

Posted 11-15-2021 at 05:18 PM by HiBanky

One of the causes for leveling jack to retract slowly can be weak old return springs. HWH offers a replacement that has considerable more strength and can, when installed, improve the retraction time. These springs new and old have a good deal of energy stored in them so use extreme caution when extending and releasing them.

Be careful !!! If you are not completely confident you can do this safely, take it to a repair shop.

Installation requires some ingenuity but...

Replace an Old TV with a Smart One

Posted 11-15-2021 at 09:46 AM by HiBanky

My 2005 Journey came from the factory with loads of audio and video components, nearly all of which are now obsolete. The big one of course is the CRT television above the dash. If you have not already done so, replacing this is a bit of a challenge but in a day and with some fabrication skills it can be cleanly replaced with a new smart TV.

Once you have figured out how to get the old TV removed, you will see behind the wood frame is a big and very strong steal frame. Leave this...

Keeping Chassis Batteries Charged

Posted 11-13-2021 at 09:31 PM by HiBanky
Updated 09-28-2023 at 01:53 PM by HiBanky (Add Photo)

Many older RVs like my 2005 Journey do not charge the chasses batteries while connected to shore power and if you remain parked long enough they will go dead. Well at the risk of sounding like a product promotion, I believe I have found the perfect solution. There is a small gadget called a Trik-L-Start that, when installed, keeps the chassis batteries up and protects them from being drained by parasitics on the automotive side or loads on the house side. It’s simple, easy to install, and operates...
