How to set up your ignore list - peace keeping made easy

You can place other forum members on an ignore list so that you can't read their posts and they cannot use the PM system to contact you.

To do this:
  • Click on 'usercp' on the upper nav bar.
  • Find "settings & Options" on the left side menu and select "edit ignore list"
This is useful for those members that really push your buttons, or whos' posts consistently annoy the heck out you (or if your ex posts here)

If you have a problem with another members posting style we strongly encourage you to use the ignore feature. As always, if you feel a post is inappropriate, use the report post button to report it to site staff.

Adding tags to new threads

Have you noticed the Tag field at the bottom of each thread? (hint: look at the bottom of this thread)

Tags can be added by the thread starter and can be useful for filtering topics and sorting content in a more granular way.

What are tags?
Tags are a useful way to search for threads with similar subject matter and content. This compliments the normal search system, which searches only for certain words or phrases and/or posts by specific users.

Who adds the tags?
Tags are initially added to threads by the member who starts a thread. Add words or phrases to threads to help describe the content to the tag field when starting a new topic. For instance, if the subject matter is 'photography' then you can add the tag 'photography' to the tag list. But you could also add tags like 'digital image', and 'camera' (depending, of course, on the nature of the thread). This will categorize this thread with all other threads that have matching tags, whether or not they have the word 'photography' in them.

How to use tags to find content?
Tags are displayed in a box near the bottom of a thread page. Clicking on a tag will allow you to view other threads that have the same tag - and which may be related. Clicking on the word 'Tags' in the top of the box will take you to an overview page with a 'tag cloud.' This cloud allows you to see which tags are the most popular - the larger the word, the more times it has been used on threads within the board. There is also another tag cloud on the advanced search page that shows you the tags that have been searched for (or clicked on) the most.

Classifieds use & cyber awareness

The classifieds section is available to all established members at no cost. Posts in this section of the forum may be removed if they don;t conform to forum guidelines. Old ads may be periodically removed.

Never post personal information in an ad, such as your email address or phone number. In addition to having your personal info harvested by spambots, you run the risk of being contacted by someone with criminal intent. People rightly may contact you via a comment at your ad or sending an email using the 'Contact member' link in your profile. Your email address is not disclosed to them until you reply to a 'Contact member' email.

The responsibility of completing the transaction is yours. Please remember to treat a potential buyer as a total stranger. Exercise the same wariness over payment method as you would with an anonymous responder to a newspaper classified. Be wary of a distant buyer who sends a shipper to pick up your item unless they pay you well in advance and your bank informs you that the check cleared (can take 2-3 weeks). You should never be talked into paying the shipper; this is a sign of cashier check fraud.

Cash is safest! Consider taking the buyer and any personal check, certified check or cashier check to your bank during lobby hours -- and RELY on the bank's opinion whether that payment method appears reliable.

Using the report post button

This is the report post button

It appears at the bottom of every post over to the left in the avatar block of the member who made the post. The button also appears in every private message.

Forum members are encouraged to use this feature to report spam, abuse or other forum trouble. When you click the button a copy of the reported content will be sent to moderators. You will also be asked for a brief note about the reason for the report

Adding images to albums

You can set up picture Albums in your profile. Albums can be edited and images can be added, removed and edited as needed. Album privacy is configurable to allow anyone to view or only your friends and contacts.

To set up an Album:
Click on usercp and look for "pictures and Albums" in the left side menu. Click and follow the prompts to set up one or several Albums. Here's an example: http://www.winnieowners.com/forums/m...4-albums2.html

New Posts vs. Todays posts

The link to Todays Posts can be found in the drop down menu under Quick links on the upper nav bar and is go to place for a fast update on all forum posting activity. This link will show all threads that have been updated since your last login.

The link to New Posts is located in the center of the nav bar and functions differently. It will only display posts you have not looked at and this includes any posts you have made. It doesn't really give a complete list of new posts - just ones you have not read.

Set up your signature

If you had a signature on the old site you will notice it's missing. We apologize for this but the signatures didn't import to the new platform gracefully and so you will need to set up a new one.

Members can customize their signatures but please remember to avoid commercial links. Html isn't permitted in sigs for security reasons.

Some formatting hints:
  • Use small (size 1) font sizes and making it bold.
  • Try putting several pieces of info on one line with | (look above the enter key on your keyboard) separators.
  • Remember that your sig shows on every post and so members see it over and over and over. You want it to be informational or fun but not overpower the text of you post.

Note that there is a setting in your profile options to disable signatures entirely. There is also an option to selectively display a signature on a post as you make it which you can see when using the advanced reply editor.

How to embed attachments between text of a post (rather than at the bottom)

You can add photos between pics. The process is similar to attaching an image at the end of a post but there is one more step:

1. Write the post and attach the images in the usual way (use the go advanced button below the text box to find these options) and hit upload

2. Click in the place in the text where you want to include an image and then click on the paperclip icon.

3. Select the image you want inserted and click.

4. Repeat for subsequent images. They should appear in your post rather than at the end.

Your post should look like this:

This is a donut:

Name:	donut_1.jpg
Views:	7
Size:	23.8 KB

This is a better donut:

Name:	donut_2.jpg
Views:	7
Size:	25.4 KB
ID:	169009

This is an awesome donut:

Name:   Donut_bacon.jpg
Views: 24
Size: 28.9 KB

Thanks Button

The Thanks button is a nice way to show agreement or appreciation for a good post.

Each time you click the thumbs up icon (located in each post), you have the opportunity to leave a comment which the post author can read.

You can access your own thanks comments in your user cp (click on user cp on the upper nav bar) and the last 30 or so will be displayed in the center section of the page under "Latest Thanks received" You can also see stats about how many times you've been thanked.

There are also some options in your profile to control notifications associated with receiving a 'thanks"

Leaves and User Titles

The number of leaves are dependent on the number of posts.

0 to 9 = No leaf
10 to 74 = 1 leaf
75 to 249 = 2 leaves
250 to 499 = 3 leaves
500 to 999 = 4 leaves
1000 to 2499 = 5 leaves
2500 to 4999 = 6 leaves
5000 to 9999 = 7 leaves
10,000 and up = 8 leaves
Each 5000 posts above 10,000 one leaf will turn green

User titles are also dependent on the number of posts.

Winnebago Watcher 1
Winnebago Camper 5
Winnebago Owner 50
Winnie-Wise 250
Winnebago Master 500
