We are in the middle of a trip right now. I increased my tire pressure 10 pounds over the suggested pressure for the 4 corner weight, and have been traveling at lower speeds than I usually do, along with drafting a little. Over the last two tanks, I have run over 9.02MPG where since buying our coach new have gotten just a little over 7 MPG up until now.
I don't know if it is partly due to my efforts or just a lot of good luck, but several more tanks will give me a better idea.
It has been interesting listening to the truckers on the CB, they are certainly facing much more trouble than most of us with the rising fuel prices.

This past weekend, we put about 200 miles on the coach going to and caming back from a WIT state meeting. I slowed down about 5 miles per hour to 52 on the state routes and 60 in the interstate and raised my average MPG by about 2 MPG.

This month I drove from Casa Grande, Arizona to Lake Powell to Bozeman, Mt. I decreased my speed to 60 MPH from 70-75. I tow a Chev.Tahoe.This is the only change I made from my last drive. The MPG went from 8.5 to 10.
Guess I will continue to drive slower with my Journey DL 36' as I venture on to Oregon. Keith

I normally travel between 55-60 on state roads and 65-70 on interstates.

Our engine computer says that for 75,542 miles, we've used 8848 gallons of diesel fuel. That works out to an overall average of 8.538 MPG. It has been steadily increasing the whole time we have had the coach. Started out down around 7.2 after the lead foot driver couriered it from the factory to Tucson.
Our loaded weight is in excess of 30,000 lbs. with no towed vehicle. I set the cruse control at precisely 60 MPH (verified with GPS) and drive mostly freeways. Our log shows a slight variance with the engine computer of 1% to 2% so the actual MPG is just slightly higher.
The actual average for the last several thousand miles is just over 9 MPG and that is the figure I use to plan fuel stops. With a 100 gallon tank, that works out to around 750 to 850 miles with a little reserve. I do wish that the generator fuel pickup was not placed up at the 1/4 level in the tank. Something to change one day.
I created an excel spreadsheet to calculate HP, drag, MPG, hill climbing ability in each gear, RPM, and etc. It shows that decreasing speed from 70 MPH to 60 MPH can increase MPG by almost 2. Further reduction to 55 will only net an additional .5 MPG.
This makes it easy to see why the Truckers are in a pickle. They obviously want to get there as quickly as possible but for them, a decrease in speed saves even more than for us because of increased air drag. At $4.00+ for diesel, it starts to become a trade off between MPG and time. I know I'm not happy and it is definitely changing the way we will plan out trips (more time out with shorter segments and longer stays in interesting places).
Although, that conversion to electric with 75,000 lbs. of batteries is starting to look almost feasible. ˜NOT'

We have been driving at 52 mph for years. We pull an 18 foot trailer with 2 atv's and a Jeep Wrangler. The speed is from gps, the motorhome says 58.
We very seldom get below 11, and that is figure everything off the gps to allow for the inaccuracies of the odometer.
We put it on cruise and just steer.
