OK - my thread, no distinct methodology ro the rules. So . . . here's how I'm playing the game:

Discrete maps in each MH, with only that unit's conquests. Only if we've spent the night in the MH in that state.

Avatar map - combined maps of both units. We're adding one tonight (we're in Clayton, New Mexico). Went to Black Mesa (highest point in OK) today. I've decided those will be our "stars". . . highest point in the state, or as close as we can get in the MH.

The View will have the advantage there. Could'a gotten there in the Vectra, but nervously!

Thanks, all!!

We don't have a map yet but will when we retire. We don't get to go very far since the wife only gets minimal vacation. For us I think our rule will be that we have to do some sight seeing in that state.

Where do you get the maps that are posted under the screen name?

Wife's rule. If we have not camp overnight there you can not fill it in.

Our rules are as complicated as some of the other posts:

Avatar: Any state or province we have been to in a motorhome (which is all 48 continental plus BC and Alberta. Motor home engine stalled while trying to drive to Hawaii...)

Map on coach: ONLY those states where we have taken that particular motorhome. Driving through and stopping to touch dirt counts in my book. No overnight required. HOWEVER, we only attach the map after we have taken one big trip in the new coach. We don't want anyone to pass us on the road and think we don't go anywhere! (or worse, can't AFFORD to go anywhere!)

I found the instructions by MonacoMoma. Those are very excellent instructions.
Got the job done. As you can see I haven't been very far, but that will change in a year or two. Apologize for drifting from the original subject. Thanks everyone for the help.

My rule is very simple. If I have camped in an RV in the state, it goes on my "Camped In" map.

It's your map so you get to choose what it stands for. You may even want to have more than one!

We have chosen to let our map represent all the states that we have camped in at least one night, regardless of what we were camping in... motels don't count!

Norm,

Thanks for asking the question, I have been wondering the same thing myself. It did give me a big, 'Ah Hah!' because now I know many people considering driving through the state one they can fill in. I was wondering how on earth people had so much time (unless they were retired) to get to so many states. My rules would have been one has to stay the night minimum to considering 'visiting the state' but that's just me. If I go the other way with driving through, I have the whole East coast done (several times over I might add) except for Rhode Island.

Tks.
Kyle

Kyle -

OR you could go nuts for a while and travel like I did . . . from Colorado to Key West, then north through the Canadian Rockies to Alaska and back to Colorado in 16 months. WAY too fast. I was in Florida in the spring of 2007 and decided I really wanted to go to Alaska for the summer - so I went! 17 states and three Canadian Provinces later I was back in Colorado. LOL!! I'm taking it slow from now on out.

I agree with those who say "stay over night" and most of all with those of you that say over-night and sightseeing...
I love asking folks where they stayed or visited when they have their map filled in... You get that deer in the head light look and a well we just drove through. You might as well just take a plane ride and fill it all in when you land!

In my view, the map reperesents places where we have visited and seen some number of sights. Having lived in Arionz and camped/traveled over the state for nearly 50 years, I can attest that you cannot see 'everything' in 10 lifetimes. The RV just gets me there, and adds nothing to the sightseeing.

Over the course of my previouse 2 RV's and now the one below, I have clocked almost 100K RV miles over 13 years. I put a new map on the latest MH as incentive to do it again. Otherwise, most of the states would be filled in already. I like to camp, but I also like to drive so I also value the sightseeing from the MH (and it is also one reason I like the Class A view). I think I'm with most others on the forum that if you camp in the state, it counts, and that is what I do.

Fun thread

This came up on the other forum awhile awhile back and i liked one of the answers: he said only if they re-consummated their marriage...and even though he had been in most states he still had a long way to go to mark the map

If we camp in it,we mark it and it carried over to the new coach.

When checking with tech support at Eggsoft.com, the apparent original intent was to use it for indicating what states one has camped in before marking the map.

Okay --- call me irresponsible --- I'm getting one of those maps and will use it to indicate I've been in EVERY state.

Feeling kinda wild-n-crazy!

Hope eggsoft does repossess it . . . hmmm, never thought about that

Is there any harsh punishment for a violation?

Actually, I use it to indicate the states I have talked to on Amateur (Ham) Radio.
