Replacing the doghouse console with what?

We have an '06 Itasca Suncruiser, love it except the poorly designed tray/cup holder on the doghouse is worthless. It only holds 2 cups and a few pencils but takes up a lot of space. It looks like it will open but it does not, lots of wasted storage space.
Has anyone put in something better? Our '02 Adventurer had a nice tray with sliding cover compartment. I don't feel like making my own, my woodworking skills are not the greatest. Thanks for any info.

I'm watching this thread. Ours is similar but not shaped the same. Regardless, it would be great to change it. I've seen other covers, I just don't know if this is something you can find on the market or not.

Hope you get some good responses.

My console problem solved

I looked everywhere for a replacement for the useless console and finally took mine off the doghouse, disassembled it, and made it work for me. I took out the framework inside, added a few home made hinges and a couple of bins. Now its perfect and has the storage I need. I couldn't find anything on the market that would have worked for me and would still look pretty good.

My husband and I both disliked the console that was in our 2014 Sunstar 26HE..it was indeed useless. My husband is not a carpenter but he did make his own...has cupholders for our drinks, and a storage area for maps, tissues and stuff like that. Oh, and the top of the storage area is flat so it can hold his paper plate with his snacks.

We have never posted pictures but he says he will try to learn how to do it, and then will do it. (We are older, and technologically challenged.)

Sometimes a picture and some words work best.
Click on the link at the bottom of my post (Picture Posting Guide) and see if that helps.

There is a forum here expressly for learning how to do things like post photos. It's called Forum 101.

Here's a link to the image posting instructions.

Thanks but do you realize they are thumbnails and if you attached larger photos we could click on them and see bigger images? As it is, the size they are are the size that displays and we can't see too much detail at that size.

I do. tried uploading from DropBox but that doesn't work. seems like DropBox eliminated their public folder support a while back. let me see what I can do. they'll still be thumbnails.

If you download from your dropbox to your computer or tablet you can then upload your images as attachments from the computer or tablet and the problem is solved.

I enlarged them a bit. given the size of the originals this is about as good as it's gonna get.

Regardless of the photo resolution or his carpentry skills, I think it's a really nice job and looks great. The only problem is we fill it with too much stuff we don't need.

Thank You boys and girls, I'm over six feet and 260# and reaching for my coffee on the floor was not an option. I built this for the needs of myself and my wife. Inside are eyeglass cleaners and a small binoculars and room on the cover for the snacks my wife gets me while we are on the road. I'm one of those people that only stops for gas. Strong constitution.
