rear ladders on New 2014 coaches
I just took delivery of a 2014 Journey and there is no ladder on the back, I looked at other 2014 models on the lot and they too did not have ladders. I thought this was always standard equipment, is it not so anymore?

Eh? Did Marty give you the loan of the DeLorean again?
How can you take delivery of a 2014 Journey when we're still stuck here in recession filled 2013?
Sorry. It's Friday and I'm in a smartass mood today....
Any photos of your new rig? (Genuinely)

Seems to be becoming the norm. Unfortunate in that you need one at times. Don't feel real comfortable with the telescoping ones. Takes some space and weight in the basement.

I did read that someone took delivery of a 2014 Vista and it did not come with a spare tire. Has anybody else experienced this?? We are supposed to take delivery at the end of the month. I want to have some information before so it won't be a surprise if it does not have a spare tire.
Thanks,
TeJay

It is not a new phenomenon but perhaps it is with Winnebago. We recently traded our '02 Journey on a 2007 CC Allure and it also had no rear ladder. It was the first mod I did to the Allure.
The story I've heard is that the manufacturers are wanting to make the coaches more 'streamlined' so they don't install ladders. I suspect it has more to do with reducing their costs.
There is a company in CA called Top Line that makes the ladders for most of the OEM's. You can buy a ladder directly from them for less than what you will pay the manufacturer for one. The sell a universal fit RV ladder that has a hinged bottom section. If you have reasonable mechanical skills, install is pretty easy.

Some thing it adds to your security.
Some think it is a safety issue.
Some think its because with the all the A/C units up there, the roof can't handle any additional weight.
I think its because it saves THEM a few bucks, and you can always add one if you really need it.

We would miss ours as we clean and wax the roof at least once a year. It is easier to use than to get out a ladder to get on the roof.

I am too old and fat to climb one, but if I did not have a ladder where would I mount my ham radio antennas, flag poles, and WiFi repeater? Gotta have a ladder!

I wonder if the manufacturer got sued one too many times by an overweight owner and decided to avoid the risk. It is more likely that they are saving a few $.

I wax my coach every year also but I have a big ladder in my shed so I can live without the ladder. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't being short changed.

Heres one for the paranoid types. How about a rash of break ins where the thieves climb on the roof , cut the big skylight out and climb in. Actually happening!!!!!!!!

If there that brazen and bold, they would bring their own ladder anyway. Another good reason for 20 to 100 round mags.

Mine came with no ladder and I paid the dealer to install one. I think it should be considered essential equipment.

It's a sign of the times, less for more.
There are some really great and safe RV ladder suppliers in the country. If I can remember the one in particular or find the place where I stored the info, I will re-post.

We bought that little pull behind for the daughter and two grandsons. We still believe a coach only sleeps two!

There have been numerous times during my travels that I've needed to get on the roof to maintain stuff, clean stuff, install stuff etc. My new rig doesn't have a ladder and I'm considering installing one, though it will compromise the looks of the coach. It's OK when you're home and have the big ladder available, but don't want to carry a big ladder along in the storage bays.
