The MAXXUM chassis is made by Freightliner for Winnebago only. It was developed by both of them.

The Maxum chassis was developed long before the current downturn. Dropped frame rails, which the Maxum has, are a normal thing in the beverage truck industry. I believe the intent was to gain cargo storage space and better access.

We have been looking to upgrade from our 35U Adventurer to a Tour DP I know from checking the spec's that the 2008 has the maxum chassis with 206 cu ft storage and the 2007 Tour does not and the storage space drops off to about 135 cu ft. Don't know about you but my wife needs all the storage space she can get

The Maxum has a lower center of gravity, more strength, better ride, and more storage. If I had known it was coming the following year, I would have waited for it. It is clearly a step up; not down. Go for it.

If you want the Maxumm chassis you have to get one of the top two models. Be prepared to pay big $$$$$$$$. It is a great chassis though.

We have the Maxum chassis and noticed a difference with the lower center of gravity from our 2007 Journey. The storage space addition, pull out drawers and complete through side to side space use is great. It also has IFS and makes driving and tracking terrific.

Love the storage with the maxum. But watch your head. With the slides out you have to duck under them to get to the storage. After banging your head a few times you learn to keep your head down. I love the extra storage on my 08 Tour. I can fit a 6’ fold down picnic table under mine. The Tour does not have Independent front suspension (IFS). I have large folding lawn chairs and they fit easily. I would not have bought my tour if it didn’t have maxum.

We get our brand new 2009 Tour 40TD on Monday and when testing and driving potential MH's the lower center of gravity, improved ride and storage were a big, no huge, plus.

My opinion - Its the best chassis that Winnebago has ever used. I love it.
