Dimplex electric fireplaces. A few years ago the model that used a remote had a problem with starting electrical fires behind the unit. I assume that was all fixed after the recall, haven't read about any more fires. It only affected the remote-controlled units.
Our Grand Junction 5er had 2 of them (no remotes), never a problem with either. We really enjoyed them, and thought them worth the money.

When we found our current trailer, we had the dealer remove the fireplace as we wanted the storage area. We use a much smaller ceramic heater that cost a lot less. It puts out the same 1500 Watts of heat as the "fireplace".

We went with this inexpensive ($27.86) Sunbeam electric heater since it was wall mountable (hangs from 1 screw like a picture) and would not have to be stored anywhere:

I saw a couple at our local Sam's Club and both were in the $150 range. One was wall mountable and the other was a cabinet model on casters. Both had a 1500 watt heating elements and when were turned on to simulate a fire looked very realistic.

I purchased one from the web site below. I installed it in the cabinet below the TV. Took some measurements of the cabinet opening and went to the website and found an insert unit that would fit, got some cherry wood and trimmed it out and it looks like it was there all along. It is 1,500 watts with a blower and we use it all of the time. It really takes the chill of without having to turn on the heat. DW loves it...

We weighed that option too. OTOH, a flickering fireplace, good wine, relaxing movie, and DW, outweighed the space gain. Besides that, after owning and living in that 5er for 8 years we still had vacant cabinets/ storage space.

FWIW, I was in a Menard's store today. They sell an electric fireplace insert W/ remote- $79. Don't remember the brand but was not Dimplex.
