keyed gas cap

can't find a fit for the gas cap on an 81 Brave. I'd like to get one with a key since the 69 gallons tank might attract attention.

You might take your non-locking gas cap into an auto parts store. They may have one that will do the job.

This has been discussed a few times. I started with a locking gas cap but after reading some of the stories about how folks would have gas tanks damaged by determined thieves, I thought about it and went back to a non-locking cap.

As a former repo man, I guarantee that I could probably drill out a locking cap anyway. That assumes I didn't get my hands on a standard set of keys for caps.

This kind of follows the idea that it is bad enough to get broken into but worse if you get damaged by that. As an example a lock smith told me years ago to NOT lock the door from the garage to the house. If a thief gets into the garage they will just close the garage door. They will then simply beat the crap out of your door into the house. Even if you have the best dead bold locks they will simply just cut a hole in the dry wall and probably do it with the Saws All in my tool bench. LOL

We did that on our 12 passenger bus at work, they just cut the filler hose between the cap and tank. Happened twice. Cost more to fix and still lost the gas!
Also, on a Newmar they don't use locking caps because they aren't sealed well enough, they setup requires non-vented caps and none of the locking ones seal and they leak. Been there, did that.

The door to the gas cap has a lock.
I ll keep it at that then.
Was eying those springs you put in the hose against siphons. Another bother then.

And on some rigs, if you look, the filler connects to a rubber hose that goes to the tank. Lock the cap, and they just cut the rubber connector hose. Cheaper to let them have the fuel once or twice. Third time, they will be looking at the business end of my side arm.
