Getting work done at CDI in Forest City

Greetings! We are taking our Journey in to CDI in few days to have some work done (bug mask replaced, minor fiberglass repairs, paint touch up, etc). Looking for any info about the general experience -- is there a waiting room, can you stay there overnight if the work takes more than a day, do they plug you in or can you keep your fridge on propane power while they are working on it, etc.

Did the mask 4 years ago. They did a excellent job. I'll probably go back and the same as you in another year or two.

They had me in at 7:30 am and out at 5 pm to do a complementary repaint of roof radius and front/rear caps where the clear was gone. I also had them repaint an area on the sidewall where the awning broke and beat up the finish. They also fixed rock dings and repainted 5 or 6 compartment doors. All this in one day and $850.

They put multiple men on the job to get me in/out in one day, and that was during the big GNR rally. Since you are getting the mask off that may be one full day by itself. If you talk to Dave at CDI he can tell you how long and whether it's going to be 1 or 2 days. Dave was great and that's assuming he still works there. Call Dave Nagle at 1-641-585-5900 or 1-641-590-3420.

In 2008 they didn't have a waiting room, but you could sit in the front office. They could finish up day 1 and have you move to the Winnie service area where they have many sites to plug in. And then in the morning you'd drive the 1 mile back to CDI.

My 13 yr old 3M film in the front is going to need replacing one of these years and I don't think the paint will survive. Although a guy in Florida claims they can remove it and have it looking like new. Anyway, I'd like to know how it all comes out for you and what they charged for the work.

Good luck,
Bill

Google up CDI, Forest City. Evidently a really good paint shop...... but their website is pretty spartan.

I believe Winnebago uses CDI for all their full body paint jobs. It least I have seen lots of new Winnebago coaches around in their shop when I have been there.

We had some touch up work done there after warranty replaced an awning. Service at Lichtsinn delivered the coach to them and it was back in a few hours. Even knowing where to look for the repair I cannot see it.

Work is done and we are very happy with the results.

Bug mask is replaced and dried up decals removed.

We were able to keep the refrig on propane and just hung out in the Winnebago Service customer waiting area down the road.

David (and his team) are awesome.

Took our coach to Litchsinn RV for warranty work. After the refrigerator fell over and destroyed the microwave they had to do some work in securing the refrigerator to the wall which the factory failed to do.

They also sent the coach to CDI to have a right side rear marker light replaced and painted. About six hours into our return 770 mile trip I stoped for fuel and then walking to the rear of the coach noticed that the new marker light was gone and all I had was the electric wires hanging out of the rectangular hole.

Had another one painted and sent to me which I mounted correctly. Draw your own conclusion.

Don't know about CDI but I had some work done at the factory repair center. Was very dissatisfied and believe I was overcharged for what they did. Will never go back to the factory for repairs again.

We have had the top sides repainted and they seem okay. We've had basement door damage fixed and repainted but they are not glass smooth and the different colors are not smooth across the lines as if not clear coated or as if finish was wet sanded. I'm not crazy happy with their work. The cost seems to equal the quality of the work. Only my feeling.

Ahaa! We are headed out for our first "Full Time" trip next spring and and our first stop will be at WBGO for service and repairs. Must make time for paint touch-up.
