Gas lift strutt replacement

Looking for some help on figuring out what PSI gas strut I need.

I am replacing my 20 inch gas strut that holds open my door for the Battery/water heater compartment on my 2001 Itasca Horizon. There is only one strut on the door and it will not keep it open.

It has no markings on it so I am having trouble in determining what pressure i need, they come in various levels of 25lbs to 100lbs.

Just wondered if anyone has had to replace it and what size they used to replace it.

This chart shows the lengths and strengths, I'm trying to find a recommendation for lift strength for you.

https://www.makariosrv.com/gas-sprin...ruts/#Fitchart

This chart says your old one(s) should have a lift strength or part number to cross reference:

This chart has a calculator:

EDIT: This one should get you really close: http://www.rvdesigner.com/gas_props.asp?ci=12

Go to the Winnebago site and get the parts list for your coach. It should have both the Winnebago part # and the specs for gas strut.

Well now you know what to look for, that's a start. There are so many different struts available it can take a bit of research, especially if you're comparing prices.

I found a great solution, I think on IRV2. Get a piece of 1/2" sched 40 PVC. Cut it to a length that's a little shorter than the rod section of your strut when open. Cut a lengthwise slot wide enough so that you can snap it onto the rod but small enough that it won't fall off.

When you close the door, push it with your finger so that it will slide it over the barrel portion of the strut as the door opens.

When you open the door, it will drop down onto the rod portion in a "cocked" position and hold the door open.

It's much cheaper than a replacement strut and will never wear out. The struts on my 2002 Itasca Suncruiser 35U are all starting to fail and I'm doing this for all of them except maybe the one or two that I'm in and out of all the time.

One of my basement doors unexpectedly came open while driving down the road and one of the struts is now jammed in the open position.

It has the nomenclature printed on it.

It's a Stabilus Lift-o-Mat, made in Gastnoia, NC

So far I haven't been able to locate that company.

When i replaced my gas strut I went to my parts manual and it called out the PSI rating, I just then measured the strut at the fully extended position and then went to EBay and ordered it. It has worked fine. If you can find the PSI rating you will be in business.

I just replace one of these struts in my entertainment center. The only basement compartment with one strut. All the other basement doors have two struts at 30 lbs. I took the one off and tried some of the 30 lbs stuts from another basement door and it did not work. Not strong enough to hold the door open. Somebody at Camping world suggested that I try a 90 lbs strut. It was a pain to get on as I needed to collapse the strut 1/4 in to install. It barely holds the door open. 100 LBS would have been better, but it is working and I am happy with it.
