Gas Class A Info

In the new issue of RVBusiness they have a discussion of Gas Class A motorhomes and highlight 4-major brands.

Winnebago is one of those and here's the content of their remarks on Winnebago Class A motorhomes:

Quote:
Winnebago has stepped away from the very high end of the gas Class A market by eliminating its Sightseer and Sunova sister coaches, both of which carried base MSRPs of nearly $200,000. "It's just a small segment. There are other places we wanted to put our resources;' said Whitehouse. "And, then, of course, we released the Intent about a year ago and that product has just now gone through a complete renovation - new color, upgraded graphics, options to the dealers that customers have been asking for, dual air, things like that:'

Winnebago currently builds four gas Class A lines which, in addition to the Intent ($116,673 base MSRP), include the Vista and Sunstar (both with a $136,258 base MSRP) and Adventurer ($154,773 base MSRP).

Another line Winnebago shed was the Vista LX which, said Whitehouse, created some confusion. "One of the things we wanted to do was simplify the product lineup;' he said. "Vista and Vista LX were confusing, in my opinion, to consumers. At one point, you could get a Vista or Vista LX with or without full body paint, with 30-amp with single air, 50-amp with dual airs. It was confusing to define what Vista was. Now we can define that. You can define specifically what Intent is, what a Vista or a Sunstar is and what an Adventurer is. "Adventurer is full body paint, two airs, 50-amp; Vista is a taupe exterior with graphics or partial paint. Intent is no paint - that kind of thing. So, you can define what the products are:'

As Whitehouse pointed out, Winnebago's most popular floorplans are the Vista/Sun star 29VE and, for the Intent, the 29L. "The 29VE is a big, four-slideout unit with walk-around queen bed, bunk up front with a big exterior kitchen;' he explained. "It's basically the same floorplan on the Intent: every Intent floorplan has an exterior entertainment center and exterior kitchen and each is underneath the awning:'

A little bit more from that article in RVBusiness magazine:

Quote:
One of the biggest changes that we'll see in the gas Class A business will be the introduction of the new Ford chassis that we're supposed to start seeing in January;' said McDonough. "It's a brand-new chassis, engine, and everything, and it's going to require all of us manufacturers to redesign dashes and firewalls and make a lot of modifications to all the product that we're currently building in preparation for it. But based upon the information that we've gotten from Ford, it seems like it's going to be a win for the consumers
And here is the Gas Class A sales by price point:

Thanks for posting this. I have been confused with the web site and other information available. I am going forward with a 2019 Adventurer early next week.

Agree. Thanks for the good info. At least they have a strategy. Hopefully they will enter the high end gas market in the future.

Also, congrats on your Adventurer purchase! I think you will love owning a Winnebago!

Paring down the product line makes a lot of sense.

I wonder if they have learned to glue the hood to the brackets yet?

I personally believe that eliminating the Intent 26M was a mistake. A lot of us love that in/out slide functional floor plan. And... the 26' is a great length... Hope they bring it back.

2020 Adventurer 36Z MSRP is $ 196,878. So Winnebago still has Class A gas models with the same features and price points at the high end, just as before. They are being ordered and built, at least in small quantities. Lazy Days has one for sale in Tampa FL.

So, I am not sure the article is accurate in any statements that Winnebago has abandoned any part of the Class A segment, at least so far as Ford F53 gas class A models go. That said, they don't build anything without an order from a dealer so if dealer's don't see any demand for the high end, then few if any any are being ordered and built.

The high end Sightseer and Sunova models, were not eliminated, IMHO just re-named Adventurer. Just like the Vista LX was renamed Adventurer.

They may price the new Adventurer like the previous model, but feature-wise it’s really just a high price on the Vista model. Not the same at all and not competitive with other gas Class A RVs from Tiffin or Newmar.

And WBGO is, at present, just about out of the diesel Class A market.
