Fuel mileage

any idea what kind of fuel mileage my ole 92 Itasca Suncruiser might get. 34 fter 5.9 Cummins Allison. it has 80,000 on it. we have only used it on 2 50 mile trips. didnt fill the 90 gallon tank..it had 1/2 a tank when bought it and gauge just barely moved . we are thinking of going back to the Alaska border town of Beavercreek Yukon again, like we did this past June with our RV and 10 ft trailer. we only averaged 13 to 16 with that rig. seller told us 16 at 55 mph ?

Maybe the seller only calculated mileage while traveling downhill.

I would say if you see 12-14 you should buy a lottery ticket.

I agree!! In my auto I have an instant reading MPG. It varies from 8-99.9 MPG, but when I fill up the tank and calculate it myself, it comes close to the mileage listed by the EPA. You'll have to drive the RV yourself, keep track of miles and gallons of fuel over a number of fill ups to get an accurate MPG average. You might also note when driving conditions might change mileage. Strong headwinds, stop-and-go traffic, etc.

It depends

We have had as high as 10.5 on a few early trips when we didn't try to peg the needle to the limit and the ground was flat.
We also now tow a trailer generally it has about 8K curb weigh. It doesn't seem to matter if we are towing loaded or empty. We get average 7.5 mph.

OP is from Canada. His mileage figures appear to be really Kilometers per Gallon. If you multiple .6 times his KM figures, it brings closer to what MPG should be. Am I correct?

Fuel mileage in metric is measured in Liters/100 Kilometers.

However, an Imperial gallon is larger than a US gallon.
One Imperial gallon equals 1.2009493 US gallons.

So I guess one could assume your fuel mileage per gallon could be higher in Canada than the US. . Not to mention, we don't have contamination in our fuel such as animal fat.
Having said that, it costs twice as much.

Thought of that, but since the OP referred to "2 50 mile trips", "90 gallon tank" and his title was "Fuel mileage" I sort of figured his reference to "averaged 13 to 16 with that rig", the OP was talking U.S. gallons and miles. He didn't label numbers in "seller told us 16 at 55 mph"..."13 to 16" and "16 at 55mph" assumed it was just an oversight.

Since 1 mpg = .425 kgl his 13 (mph) would be 5.52 kpl, 16 (mph) would be 6.8 kpl.

i am old school. do not like or figure out mileage in Kilolmeters per litre..never have ,never will. and yes. our gallon is bigger than yours.so our MPG is more too.I think switching to the metric system in 76 was the biggest waste of money ever.

Yeah, that would put Canada in with the U.S.A., Myanmar, (formerly Burma) and Liberia.

fuel mileage

ok its been a while since was here,. we managed to get one one 600 mile trip on the old girl; filled it up before we left and when we returned 13.5 Miles per Gallon at 55 Miles per hour. seeing that theres no Canadians here that knows Kilometers per litre.. LOL so that's ok with me. its a bear to keep on the highway after 55, wanders. all new tires. 100 lbs pressure on rears.80 frts.took it to 2 big truck shops and they said frt end is fine. get used to it .straight axle rigs are that way? we might sell it and go back to pulling a trailer.im not driving it to Alaska and back 3200 miles with white knuckles.

Try and find a Safe T Plus steering stabilizer and your white knuckles will go away. I had one installed on our 11 Tour and now I can one hand it and drink my coffee. I t really made a difference.
