From page 90 of the Winnebago story:
Quote:
The Itasca Division of Winnebago Industries
offered a new and exciting product line that combined
innovation with traditional Winnebago quality. The
Itasca motor home was intended to expand and
strengthen Winnebago's Number One position in the
Recreation Vehicle market. To do this, both the type
A and Type C motor homes were built on chassis
developed and manufactured by the Chevrolet Motor
Division of General Motors Corporation. The Itasca
home was the bright new name with a bright new
future in the RV business.

The Itasca Brand, started in 1975, was based on the Chevy chassis while the Winnebago Brand continued to be based on the Dodge Chassis. The Chevy chassis became optional for the Winnebago brand and was finally the only option when Dodge stopped producing a Motorhome chassis when it went through Bankruptcy proceedings in 1979.
