Dealer invoice

Why is dealer invoice on Winnebago's (or any RV) so hard to get? There have to be some retired sales people out there who could share the average markup on Class A units. I want to buy a new Tour but I don't even know what a realistic offer would be? 25% off MSRP, 30%.... I am guessing dealer cost is around 35% lower than MSRP but can't find anything on the internet! Getting invoice on a car is so easy!

Based on my experience, your guesses are pretty good.

Because their margins can be so high and vary widely by model, you'll likely never see an invoice. You may see a $$ value the dealer paid, but no breakdown. If you want the best deal look for older inventory of a model the dealer has a few of. Older units will likely be off the manufacturer's floor plan and costing the dealer.

Your best bet is to test the waters and leave emotion at home. Be willing to walk a way from the deal. If you were close, the dealer will call you later. Don't be afraid to negotiate with the sales manager rather than the sales person. BTW, know your hard stop number before you begin. Once the negotiation begins you could end up spending more than your budget if that number is not looked in your head. This is kind of like the wild bidding the last few seconds of an eBay bid...don't do it.

Best of luck,

Gil

Dealer invoice is a little over wholesale so knowing what dealer invoice is makes negotiations more contentious from the point of how much profit you think the dealer should make and how much the dealer knows he has to make.

A very dear friend was the general manager of a LARGE RV retailer with over 7 locations. He retired and agreed to help me buy my last coach. I bought 3 from him at the dealer and once retired he told me that depending on the coach, the dealer cost was between 35% - 40% off the sticker. Alot of other variables will play into what they will sell for. Overhead, how active the service departments are, parts ect.....when they want to move a coach I believe that 30-32% off is possible but you really have to do your homework to make that kind of deal.

I (we) my wife just snooped at my computer, Went to a FMCA rally(Pomona 08) and played two dealers against each other. One winnebago, one Itasca. We bought(ordered) an 08 voyage 32h (sunrise). We paid 30% under list. A long 6 hour ordeal.
