A couple of years ago when we returned from Texas, we parked in a church parking lot before driving to our home. I told my wife that I would walk home, and when she was ready to come, she could use the cell phone to call our home phone to let me know. I went on home and waited for a long time. Finally I tried to call her from the home phone but, when I dialed the cell number, the phone rang! I hung up and tried again and the same thing happened. I knew that she had been fooling with the cell phone while we were travelling, and I wondered if she had put it into some weird state. I called my daughter and got a busy signal, but the phone didn't ring. So I just sat and waited. Finally wife wife drove in using the toad, and when she came in I said" Why didn't you answer the cell phone?" What do you suppose she said to me?

When you say "the phone rang" did you mean your home phone rang?

At first I thought perhaps the cell phone was put on "forward calls to home phone number when busy" and your wife was on the cell phone talking to your daughter.

However, you phone wouldn't ring if you had the receiver off the hook, would it? So that can't be it.

Yep, I had the cell phone in my shirt pocket. When I would dial it, it would of course ring, but I thought it was the land phone ringing.
Sounds simple now, but I was really trying to find a high-tech answer. Terry Smay

Well, I think what threw me is that it doesn't explain why when you called your daughter, you got a busy signal ...just a coincidence that she happened to be on the phone to somebody else? Way to throw us off!

And you can't tell the difference between the cell phone ringing in your shirt pocket and the one on your land line? *laughs* you're almost as bad as my DH!

Well at least you didn't try to change the TV with your cordless phone!!! Then have your teenage daughter laugh hysterically.

When she walked in (sporting an ugly demeanor) and I asked her "why didn't you answer the cell phone" she said "because I don't have the blankety-blank cell phone!!".

The only reason I mentioned calling my daughter was to give you the clue that the phone was working properly when I called her.

And for amanda, I probably am just as bad or even worse than her DH.
