Long distance comfort

Hi,
I am planning to try the snowbirding thing from Florida to New England where my pups and I will be camping from early May -late Sept.
I just got home from a 4 day local trip and couldn’t wait to jump into my own bed.
Are there any ways of improving the Minnie Winnie Spirit’s queen bed so as to make it more comfortable?
Any other tips/product suggestions for long hauls would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

There's a thread for that... here's how to post photos:

http://www.winnieowners.com/forums/f...lp-349894.html

PS. We've replaced mattresses in a couple of our RVs in the past. If it's odd shaped there are places online that offer custom mattresses in any shape. And in most larger towns there is probably a custom mattress company that can make you anything you want in any shape you want.

Of course, the cheapest and easiest is to get a memory foam topper at Costco and trim it with an electric knife (Turkey knife) to size.

My first question might have to be about what makes the bed uncomfortable for you. some things bother some while not others and some things can be fixed while others are not that easy. Is it the shape or size or some other part of the bed? A bad surface might be fixed with a different mattress but if it is just too small and odd shaped, that can get tough to solve. Sometimes the best way to fix my sleep is to get better curtains that shut out the light!
But before really digging too deep, I have to say that I need to be on the road longer before I really get into good sleeping and it does take several days.
New curtains won't help if you feel like you are sleeping on a rock but a new mattress won't help if it's a problem with the generator next to you.
So what seems the big issue with the bed?

Well, since it’s only me and the two small dogs, there are no hogging issues.
I find it’s the mattress comfort level that’s lacking.
It’s foam and rather hard,.
Maybe my select comfort at home has me spoiled?
I was hoping that Winnebago’s Website would have some shopping resources to replace/upgrade things but they don’t.
I’ll keep trying to get a photo uploaded.
Thank you!

I did it, yay! Needed to use laptop to attach pix.
Just looking at that mattress makes me feel like Wilma Flintstone.
Note how the bottom right curves so as to accommodate the bathroom door?
That would seem difficult to replace, unless by Winnebago.
I have a foam pad on there which hardly helps.
Maybe I need a different one.

I love the turkey knife trimming of costco foam mattress idea.
Any recommendations, not on electric turkey knives but foam toppers? lol

We bought a nice mattress for our class A but it still sits on a plywood base. This is a kit that you can add, which Winnebago even installs on some units. It’s an adjustable support system that may make your mattress more comfy:

Congrats on posting the pic! Sometimes the simple are not so simple, right?
And that gets back to what to do with the bed. Foam but too hard may be helped with a different layer of foam on top but then I have a problem with foam as I sleep hot and it tends to wrap up and around and I die from overheating! So there are times when adding flex on the bottom can work better. I sleep hot but have problems with the bed on the outside wall when it's cold! We've been through a number of different RV and none are as good as home but we do get better at choosing. An island bed that doesn't slide out into the heat and cold, nor leave my feet in the sink and add a topper to make it softer and we are getting closer. I hope your trek to comfort is shorter!

We’ve had good luck with toppers and a mattress pad. Newer toppers are better at shedding heat than they used to be and the mattress pad/cover provides a layer of fabric that aids in the air movement. Suggest at least a 3” topper. There’s boatloads of them on Amazon where you can see people’s ratings but they’re in Walmart too.

Your mattress is the same shape as the original fitted in our Brave 27RC ... we found a standard double (UK) mattress was exactly the same width and length... the extra square end does not restrict the shower door opening... it is worth checking if the same will work for you. Cheers

We don’t have your RV, but have used egg crate mattresses, which help a firm mattress. You could easily trim that with the electric knife. Our daughter gave us her old memory foam mattress topper, which helps our not supportive mattress be more comfortable. We also have a down mattress pad on our bed at home that makes our mattress a bit more comfortable.

Hello dgrbruv in the UK!
I just received a topper from amazon
per the above requests.
Going to pick up my Winnie Spirit today.
Have the topper and turkey carver, just in case...
Ha
Funny, in this particular topper’s reviews, there was
identical carver trimming advice.
Thanks for weighing in.
Merry Christmas and
Happy holidays to you
And yours.

On our last rig we simply went to Mattress Factory and they built a new mattress exactly to our specs.
