"Discount cards work best if the place you want to stay accepts them." - The old man's advice.

You can either let the card dictate where you stay or figure out where you want to stay and find if any cards help you out.

We bought a Passport America membership. We have camped 2 days so far this year and the next time we use it we will be in the plus already. I'm thinking for us it's going to be a good buy. We are leaving in June for about a year on the road.

The bad thing I have found about using Passport America discount cards is that the RV parks usually assign us a site less desirable. It either doesn't have a picnic table or it is between long term guests that have crap all over their site and encroaches on your assigned site.

I have Passport America and use it when we can. Since we are fulltiming, we like to stay a week, but many P/A parks have limitations of one night, Mon-Thur, or none at all during peak season. That said, it has paid for itself in nice parks in upstate NY, and Desert Hot Springs CA, and Santa Fe NM.

When we FTd we had Passport America ----$44/yr. Use it couple times and you have broke even.
We used it WHEN we were in an area where CG accepted it. 50% off daily rate

We also had a 'CG Membership'---Home park and C2C Affiliate camping. Bought it RESALE CHEAP.....used it when we where in an area where Private CGs were members . $10/15 night for FHU site

We also stayed at State/National Parks, City Parks, Fairgrounds and BOONDOCKED (not Wally-Docked) but on BLM land etc.

If member of Elks, Moose, Masons etc.....some of them have RV sites at some of their facilities.

And then I would get 10% off just by asking "How about a discount?" or "Do you have any discounts?"
Veterans, AARP, Old People (Seniors), Pity ---help a fellow out??
Some gave one...some just laughed.
Never hurts to ASK

Passport America is easily justified. The participating venues run the spectrum from upscale resorts to, well, not so upscale. Often there are number of days to stay limits, but they are workable and often waived if asked in my experience. PA has a good website to help find participating venues.

Good Sam, AARP, and others often net a 10% discount.

If age qualified the America the Beautiful pass program nets a 50% discount at federal, state, coe, etc. venues.
