Traveling with a Residential Refrigerator
I understand that when on the road with an A/C only refrigerator one must turn on the inverter. And that the alternator recharges the house batteries as they are needed to supply current to the inverter. I'm curious to know does the alternator supplies enough "charge" such that the batteries are not depleted? In other words could I travel for say 10 a 12 hours and not be concerned about the house batteries?
Thanks for any insight.

You should be able to with no problem provided your batteries are good and no charging system issues.

We too have been doing so for the last two years. Best thing I ever did was put the res fridge in our coach.

and nice to recall the last power outage you had at the house too
As long as you didn't open the fridge or freezer it stayed cold for a LONG time...
longer if it was FULL of cold stuff !!

Yep, just to the alternator will keep the batteries completely topped up. The refrigerator will not put nearly the load on your batteries as you may think.

Interesting to note that my residential refrigerator pulls less current than the Norcold did when running it on inverter. BUT, I turn the inverter on ONLY when needed as it burns a good bit of power all by itself even when in standby mode. Most of the time when driving I run the generator.

I hope its for running it for air conditioning. There is a post on the forum for power needs and their requirements. The alternator is well equipped to handle all the driving needs. The inverter uses very little electric and really only needs to be turned off for boon docking in the extreme

Our Maytag fridge while it's running only pulls 1 AMP, not sure what the start-up pull is but start-up is very short term anyway.

Can the coach alternator handle one or both AC's while driving, and not using the Onan? I have always turned on the genet when on the road for the AC's and this exercises the unit at the same time. Our Onan genset is on the fritz and not available at this time.

the coach alternator does not run the house airconditioners ; only the gennny or shore power will.
The alternator will keep the batteries charged powering the inverter.
