Run AC while driving?

I just got a 2005 cambria, Itasca, on Ford F450, when driving how do you get AC to the people in the back? Do you run the generator? It seems to only have AC on the dashboard.

Yep, run the generator.

From most of the info you will find on line a typical 4500-5000 watt generator on a newer Motorhome will use about 1/2 gal/hr of fuel at partial load and about 3/4 gal/hr at full load.

To put this into meaningful numbers lets assume you can get 10MPG at 60MPH. If you run one air conditioner and the generator is running at half of it's capacity then your MPG will drop to about 9.2MPG. If you run all the air conditioners and your generator us running at maximum capacity then your MPG will drop to about 9MPG.

If you turn your dash air off you are likely to pick up 1/2MPG and maybe even more. Some long time RV'rs claim there that is virtually no difference in MPG between running the generator and air conditioners on full and the dash air off versus running the dash air full and the generator off. At the most there may be 1/2 MPG between the two scenarios

Obviously if you run your dash air on max and generator on max you will lose a tad over 1MPG.

Hope this helps.
