Norcold Fridge Update

Norcold did the Recall (09E-027) and replaced the Cooling Unit no charge (previous post). But they would not pay for replacement of the two Fans (one inop & one intermittant). So the bill was $276 (incl 1/2 hr labor). Seems fair. In all, I'm guessing the total bill was about $500, with P&L (fans), CG fees and gas.

They're going to get to you one way or another. It's no wonder a lot of people have such a low opinion of the RV industry.

Hello Thudman,

The ½ hour labor seems right, but the total of $276 for two fans seems over the top. Even at $150.00 per hour, that makes the fans $100.00 apiece. I know those fans; they can be had at an electronics store for $25 and on the cheep for $10 bucks or less apiece. As JC2 said, they get you one way or the other.

I still like your point of view though; the recall done with the fans replaced for $276 seems cheep at twice the price! Enjoy!

$104 each. Had I purchased the fans for 10 each, the svc ctr may have taken a dim view if I asked to install them.

Be happy.

I changed the cooling unit on my Norcold, and was going to change the fans out when I had the refrigerator out, I found fans for $10, after I checked the cheap fans, I found they had bushings, the fans on my refrigerator has bearings, about $40 each. They are made better also. I don't like the $100 price either, just make sure you get the right fans, and not have to pull the unit our again.

Good point. I've learned that cheaper is nice but not always better.

For $104 each, I also hope the fans have bearings (vs bushings).
