So we've been watching videos, considering buying a new(er) MH and a lot of them mention a domestic fridge. My question is are they set up on a power inverter or something to run when driving? We will drive up to 8 hours a day and concerned about food staying cold if no ac power is running to keep the fridge cold?
Yes, most if not all newer Class A units have an inverter that runs off house batteries. Those are charged by the alternator when engine is running. Most have enough battery power to run a long time even when not running the engine or generator.
My new Vita 24p is set up with a 1000 watt inverter and a Danby household refrigerator. Both died two weeks after I bought coach. Both are fixed, I replaced inverter thanks to Winnebago, and Found parts for the overload protector on the refrigerator thru Amazon. Testing the refrigerator as we speak, leaving it on while parked next to my house. I found the refrigerator draws about .6 of a amp when compressor is running.
The fridge will run all night without power hooked up, but the key is the batteries have to be charged during the day. There is a lot of info, but basically this is not a boondocking refrigerator without modifications to solar and possibly better batteries.
