About 4 days into our current travels, I've noticed the HWH will not work on LP. The electric heats the water fine but if we are boondocking and wanting to use LP, nothing happens. I've read the manuals and there is a reference to a overtemp reset which I plan to try and locate tomorrow. However, wanted to see if anyone else had this problem and what was done to remedy.

For the LP system there is an in-line fuse on the front panel of the water heater. The fuses are inexpensive (about $5 for a set of two). This critter may have blown. Happened to me a few months ago. I removed it & checked it visually (looked ok) but it was bad, as verified by a multi meter.

Did the water heater ever work on LP? If yes, was it working and then quite? Was it windy? If you answer yes to these then check the thermal link that is accessable from the front panel. It is between the power block and the electronic box. It is single line of heavy guage wire.

What useally happens is you are on LP and a gust of wind will blow back the flame (and heat) and burn the thermal link. The link is there to stop the flame from burning the heater if for any reason proper draft is not achived.

You can by pass the thermal link but this is not recommended.

When this happened to me I called Atwood and they were very helpful.

Good luck

Steve,

Yes, it worked on LP last week. It was breezy one night while boondocked in a Wally World lot. I'll call Atwood.

Thanks.

Try the fuse mentioned by Thudman. Mine quit working on a trip and on my return the dealer told me to replace it. I did and it works fine.
Be sure the switch is off inside the coach before replacing and note the bend in the wire and use the same set up with the new fuse..Good Luck and hope you are having fun..

Hi ho, just remember that you need a green tipped thermal fuse not a white one. The green one has a higher temperature tolerance and is the correct one. Thanks good luck

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I bypassed the thermal link briefly and the gas burner came on quickly. Got an Atwood repair kit with two links and I'm good to go.
