When toilet is flushed, sewage is getting blocked in the space between the toilet and tank and causing us to use a plunger (plumber's helper) to force it down to the tank.

Any serious suggestions as to solutions?

Welcome to the forum . You have come to a great place to get help with your questions and share your RV experiences.

I've also placed your post in the RV Systems and Appliances section to get you more responses to your questions.

I can certainly recommend using lots of water when flushing any RV toilet. Some folks tend to use a lot of paper and too little water which will cause problems. Are you able to shine a light down into the bowl and see into the tank to determine if there is something blocking the pipe? There have been some cases where material from the manufacturing process (plastic, etc.) have caused obstructions.

pyoots;

Welcome to the forum and the Winnebago Industries Owner's Forum. You have found the friendliest site on the Internet.

I have never had that problem so I can only guess. My toilet drops straight down into the tank. A plugged vent might cause that problem. When you flush the toilet air has to escape out the vent to allow more waste to enter the tank.

I am sure others will jump in here with their thoughts or experience. Please post your results so we can all learn together. Good luck.

If you would like some Winnebago Karma please ask. It is all free.

Don

We had the same problem in our new Coach. Add water before using and add more water just before you flush. No more problems since we started using this procedure.

Barring supernatural influences, there are only two possibilities that could produce your situation. One is that you are not getting a strong flush because of a design defect. Some examples would be a sharp bend in the pipe that goes to your black water tank, an obstruction accidentally left by the manufacturer, or a vent pipe that is plugged or installed too low.

The second possibility is that you are flushing too many solids down the pipe at once. Either use more water or break the load in half by flushing twice. Many RVers limit the amount of paper they flush down the toilet by keeping a small trash can in the bathroom. This way, you can keep (most of) the toilet paper out of your black tank. Best of luck.

Use plenty of water and it will very likely solve the problem.

Try filling the toilet about 2/3 full of water before use. Make sure you press the pedal down all the way when you flush.

I can honestly say that before I would keep a bag in my bathroom for used TP I would have to give up RVing, as much as I love it.

That sort of sounds like the dreaded poop pyramid.
You are leaving the black tank valve closed until it's 3/4 or so filled before you dump it aren't you?

One other thing to think about... The pipe that goes into the tank was not cut to the proper length.

IE - It is setting to close to the bottom of the tank.

This allows the "poo pyramid" to build before you get enough water into the tank. The solution is to run a snake down the stool and clear the obstruction, flush and clean the black. Next you have to pull the stool, down pipe and trim the pipe to the proper length.

If you left your balck tank valve open instead of closed. All the liquid is draianing off leaving just solid poop behind. Keep the black tank valve closed untill you are 3/4 to full. Also use plenty of water when flushing.

I must have missed something - filling the tank with water? On my 99 LaPalma I could do that very easily but on my 07 Suncruiser I tried to fill it by lifting the pedal (like I did before) but nothing happened - did I miss someting or am I not doing it right?

Try pushing the pedal down slightly until water runs in. Water should flow before the ball valve opens. That is how mine works.

Thanks Wayne - I'll give that a try.

Our previous Coach had the pedal that you lifted up to add water. I thought the one in the new Coach was broken.

Ours hasn't plugged up even once since Winne tech folks (at the Pomona FMCA convention) showed us how the unit works.

Lately, I've been going with Clay's practice of using a lot of water while discontinuing the use of chemicals and haven't noticed any difference. Also my rig has a hose connection that flushes and cleans out the tank. I'll save the expense of the chemicals for use when not in use between trips.

Several folks have posted that it works for them, but unthinkable for me.

Sufficient water and the paper goes into the black tank and the black tank dumps just fine.

Possibly the same "south of the border" group that started the tomato fiasco.

A disgusting and dangerous third world habit.

E. coli; pronounced /ˌɛˈkoʊlaɪ/, is a bacterium that is commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded animals. Most E. coli strains are harmless, but some, such as serotype, can cause serious food poisoning in humans, and are occasionally responsible for costly product recalls.
