Front load washers are notorious for having mold & mildew growing around the rubber seals of the door and opening. Cooler air will cut down on the smell. I would dig around those door seals and look for mold. We had front loaders at home for years and had this problem with all of them.

From what I can tell, smell is coming from around the back of the washing machine. It doesn't seem to smell (at least not yet) from the inside. I did look for mold based on your suggestion and did find any (I also wiped around the whole gasket). What do you use to clean your gasket?

Make sure you check the lint trap. On our Splendide it is located behind the bottom panel on the right hand side. First time I pulled ours out it smelled horrible.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I assume mean the round screw in cover over the on the front of the washing machine that covers the water pump under a fascia cover. If so, yes I have.

You must mean an AAV, (air admittance valve), which is neither a "vacuum break" or an "air ejector valve"??

AIR ADMITTANCE VALVE

I am the original poster of the smell coming from around the back of the washer/dryer area. I haven't smelt the odor in the last couple of weeks. I have done nothing different in terms of my use of the washer/dryer, the use of the equipment, etc.. Basically, nothing has changed in our lives regarding the equipment, only where we travel. The only difference I can see, is we have been travelling in cooler temperatures (mid 50’s – to about 80). Could this make a difference? Also, we have been at somewhat lower altitudes. Any thoughts? I have an appointment with the WB factory August 18. I will see what they have to say?

I think it was as simple as your ptrap at the washer was empty. If you have not washed cloths in awhile the ptrap will loose water and the stink comes out. Another thing that can cause ptraps to go empty is if you drive the RV with near full grey water tanks. The water sloshes in the tank and that creates a suction or preasure on the ptrap lines pulling/pushing any water from them.

In case you are not familiar with how a ptrap works.... This is the drain line on your sinks. It has a bend in it which collects water (and your wife's hair) when you use the sink. This water is trapped in the Ptrap and prevents sewer gases from coming back into your house or RV.

Thanks. With the exception of today, the grey tank has no more than s couple of gallons in it when we travel. Also, the washer is used daily except when we don' t have sewer at our site.

I am at the Junction City factory having warranty work done. One of the things the are addressing is there grey water smell coming from behind the washing machine. It turned out to be the AAV valve.

Ed-how did they access the valve. Basically did they have to remove outside vent to disconnect flex conduit then move the dryer out or what. Thanks BMcD

Hi Ed,

I am having this exact same issue with my 2018 Sightseer 33C. Can you share more about what was done at the factory to rectify this problem?

Nomad - I had same problem with my 2016 Sunova 33c - it turned out to be the washing machine discharge hose was mounted to far into the p trap. I also replaced the AAV valve while I had the dryer out just in case the cheap one was bad. Go to my profile and check my posts for pictures. Also belong to Winnebago/Itasca Sightseer/Sunova group on facebook which is helpful.
