Dump Valves - Page 2

TOM: Curious, is this twist on valve actually a valve or a cap that can be used to close off the dump valve. Sounds like something any one with cable pulls should have on board for the inevitable cable failure.

I have one and it is a great tool to have in case of a valve failure! I also use it when flushing, after my black tank is running clear, I open both valves and back fill my gray tank. Though, you d waste a lot of water doing that... It does help get the sensors working again.

I originally bought it when I had our 5th wheel (two units ago), we were on a trip and the gray valve seals went out, not wanting to fix it right then, I bought that as a temporary fix. It worked well.

It's a slide valve just before the hose.

It can also be sued to equalize the level between the black and gray tanks to maximize waste capacity without hookups by leaving both factory valves open and the twist on valve closed.

Tom,

Is your lawyer on an annual retainer or does he have a special rate for when you sue to equalize the tanks? ;>

Next question naturally where can you buy these twist valves? Is it a C/W item,or is it best to go to the valve suppliers for RV's. Thanks for all your responses.

We did put a cap on because we couldn't trust the cable valves.

I would first see if it's available from one of the supporters of iRV2. rvupgrades.com is one

Saw a lot of responses from individuals surmising the problems with electric valves, but none that had actual experience. My coach has after-market electrics, and they have been trouble free for the nearly 3 years I have owned it (they were installed by the original owner). As someone mentioned they are great for bad weather when you need to dump and don't want to go outside (also handy if you suddenly realize the gray tank is nearly full and you want to take a shower). Unlike many others, I don't leave either valve open, I just open when necessary. The advantage of pushing a switch to dump and then close/flush is also a factor. I doubt that I would spend the money to switch them out if they were good, but I might if they needed replacement anyway.

I had electric dump valves on a trailer I used to own. They were installed by the previous owner. The only objection I had with them was the fact that I couldn't tell when they were fully opened or closed. I could guess, but on the ones that were installed there was no indicator when fully open or fully closed was reached.
