TV Replacement wiring question

Hi Guys:

Well I finally pulled the old Sony TV out of my Meridan today. What a PIA to try and hold that sucker and disconnect all the wires at the same time.

Anyway after I finally got it out, there is a six hole white female plug, three holes over three holes just laying there. It has six yellow wires in a plastic tube coming from it. It wasn't hooked to anything. Can you tell me what this is for? The TV cable plug is easy to figure, the (3) RCA jacks, red, white & yellow are for the VCR/Cd, the double white plug for front speaker, the red & white RCA Jacks from the old TV black cylinder I presume are for the surround sound.

I also have a 10 disk CD player in my left front cabinet. There is a three pin male plug, says amp on the body, what the heck is this for?

Any and all help appreciated.

Not being an electronics person, what I would do, and have done, is to get the wiring schematics for your coach from Winnebago, online, and they will tell ya what all the wires are and where they go. It's a place to start.

Hi Jim,

Here is the link to the wiring diagram for your coach. If the wires (harness) were factory installed, then they should have codes stamped on the wires themselves. Examples would be: H, JA, KKL, etc. If you can read the codes from the wires themselves, then just look toward the end of the diagram document and each code will have the wire size, color, description, and where it originates and where it goes. Hope this helps.

I will Look and give it a try. Everything is factory installed including the satelite TV setup. Thats' what I was thinking that six pin female conector was for.

There are a host of options on that model,, INcluding Sat TV (which you say is installed so that's not it) and very fancy speaker systems (IE 5.1 surround sound) and an inverter to power just the TV and related electronics.

My guess is that's either speaker wiring or inverter wiring for opitons you don't have.. Just ignore the connector

NOTE: on SOME coaches at the "Back" (which is really the front of the rig) of that compartment is an air vent grill.. On my coach, if you want to hook up or unhook cables.. You sit on the dash, remove that grill and cable/de-cable as needed.. THEN you pull the tv.. No wresteling with cables that way

IDIOTS at teh factory wired mine... Rather oddly (The hooked the video in to a video out jack.. Of course that did not work)

Hi Jim, I just made that transition and realize that it will be a lot easier to buy an independent home theater system to support your new TV because the volume in the existing synthic surround sound will not be adjustable. You will be frustrated until you research this and see many forum entires describing this problem. I bought a Phillips home theater system from Costco for around $200 and it works well.

Also, the existing system will still support your radio/stereo as an independent system.

Good luck, you have many hours of fun ahead of you.........which is OK.

I all ready have many hours invested, but I don't consider it fun..

I rather be camping..

I do believe like previousy mentioned that this particular plug is for something else that can be hooked up. Since it was not plugged in to begin with I will leave it go.

As far as the surround sound, now that's a different question. I do have the additional audio output jacks on the back of the new Sylvania 32 in. In the menu I will try and set it to variable and see if that works with the surround sound. If it doesn't, I removed the original RCA jacks and cylinder that were connected to the old speakers and will use them if need be.

The Sylvania 32 in. fits inside my old molding, it is only 29 3/4 in wide so it saved me some wood working.

I have changed out the front TV in my old 02 adventurer 35u and my 04 meridian 39k the i have now. The only way to get the surround sound to work with any new tv is to go into the old case and unsolder the wires that they have attached to the internal speakers and attach them to the internal speakers of your new TV. I have a 32" sony flat panel in the meridian and it works fine now.

That's the way I was thinking also. I will have to solder the wires to the new speakers when I get a chance.

But I have another problem, I get my digital channel connections and I can get the VCR to work, but when I play the DVD I only get sound no picture? The VCR and the DVD are standard and are together in one unit.

My Sylvania LC320SLX TV has DTV, Video, Component, HDMI or PC, Home2, Home3 modes of play..... The VCR plays set on video..?? shouldn't the DVD play on that setting also also? I tried the Componenent setting ...nada.. what am I missing here?

The only connections I have to hook up are the Yelow, White, and Red RCA jacks..?? Plus the white and red RCA jacks for the surround sound. And yes the Y,W, & R jacks are in the correct ports.

Suggestions .....I am all ears..

Are you using the multi switch box or are you going directly to your Tv from the DVD/VCR? I seem to remember having a problem with my combo player also and just bought a new DVD player. I will check my wiring this weekend when I am in there messing around.

That is a good question. Since my multi switch wineguard box sits directly on top of the VCR/DVD player, I don't know where the RCA Jacks are coming from? both units are bolted down, I can't see behind them?

The DVD worked with the old Sony TV, and had surround sound also.

I'm pretty sure the multi switch box and VCR are held in place with industrial strength velcro ( at least mine are ). They are not bolted down. You can remove both by prying up on the units. The velcro holds pretty solid.

Don't know, my VCR/DVD is secured and not with velcro.

My wineguard I think was put in after original purchase.

Hi guys:

Finally got it figured out, the DVD was set to progressive. I knocked of the progressive light and now it plays fine.

I started the back bedroom Tv replacement. It is even more work than the front TV.

Almost done, have the mounts built and bracket installed. Working on covering the excess space inside the old molding. New TV was only 13 in high compared to the 19 in opening. The new Dynex was 20.5 inches wide.
