We love our new 2008 Tour, but the Jensen Radio/DVD player in the bedroom has an annoying characteristic (to me at least) and that is the light seems very bright even when it is off and dimmed. I cannot find any way to dim the light level (although the dash Jensen has a great dimming range) and wondered if anyone has an idea.

Right now, I just stand a book in front of it which "dims" the display, but makes the clock rather hard to read!

We haven't tried to dim ours BUT we find it almost impossible to see the numbers on the display. I don't know if they are all this way but the contrast or something is out of whack! Maybe it is the black letters and the blue
backlight?

I agree about the light on the clock. That is my side of the bed and if I roll over toward the clock it wakes me right up. I have been putting one of the pillows in front of it to shut out the light, but I am thinking of making a vinyl flap to drop down over it.

When I had my windows tinted on my Honda CRV I asked for some scraps of the tint material. I tinted the display and it helped a lot. However, my wife still puts a book in front of the radio when sleeping.

I had the same problem with the bedroom radio, dash radio, and Freightliner display. I bought a roll of upper windshield tinting ans cut very carefully. Problem gone on all 3. I had posted before and after pix but have since removed them. So sorry...

Hate to be the odd man out but it really doesn't bother me all that much - thought it might but for some off reason it doesn't???

I had a little green light from an o2 sensor in my previous coach that was way to bright and I always had to block that one before I could get to sleep but not this big one on the Jenson - just doesn't bother me - wierd or what???

Good idea on the tint. I found some leftover tint and will cut a little patch to put over the display. Looks like an effective, but not very classy, fix.

This is too funny, we had this same discussion in May of last year. Post was titled "Bedroom Radio Brightness". Generally same solutions, best option seems to be window tint, though that didn't actually work out for me. In the end, we just always laid a shirt over it... Good luck!

My '02 Suncruiser doesn't have a bedroom radio. I wish it did. I use a small battery operated but would love to have one built it. Could someone provide a picture of the radio and location. I could prolly install one. Is it a regular car radio or some other type. What is the antenna set up?

My Thanks.

I tried the tint idea and while it helped with the dimness issue, it also made the thing virtually unreadable. The interesting thing is that the dash radio has a great dimming feature -- right where you don't need it. The bedroom radio seems to have no dimming capability. Interesting!

Rick, Are you saying that the tint gel is distorted? Mine is so clear you can't even tell it's there.

Just found it: It's made by Axius, called "Insta-Cling Windshield Tint Strip" Stock #50582

1-888-992-9487
www.auto-expressions.net

This is a neutral Charcoal Grey color that doesn't distort vision or color. It's 35%VLT (what comes through). Think I found it at Pep Boys.

As mentioned earlier, I did the dash radio and the Frieghtliner displays as well because it was entirely too bright at night. Both are easily v isable during the day, and the hi-lo differences on the dash radio work better between day & night.

No insult taken on my part, I tried the tint but it just didn't work for me, was still rather bright at night, and was unreadable in the day, went back to the shirt and everyone was happy! :-)

OK. I too had this issue, but my solution was different. I did try the tint thing, but you could still see the light at night. So I thought, do I really need a radio clock in the bedroom with a bright light in my face. I opened and pulled out a cabinet drawer next to the radio and pulled the fuse out to the radio. No power, no bright light. Next I ordered a rocker switch from Winnebago parts to match my existing switch's in the RV. Cut a hole in the cabinet, installed the new switch, wired the switch to the radio and replaced the fuse I had pulled. Then Labled the switch on/off. No light or radio untill switched on with the new switch. Now I leave the radio/light off most all the time.
