Just brought it (2008, Sightseer 35J) home and 2yr old Grandson has a question : Are there no speakers on the bunk DVD players? We can only get audio over the IR headsets. And, the audio turns off frequently.

If there are no speakers has anyone added one? I don't see an audio out jack.

I know we'll have more questions but this one will make Eli happy! Thanks, Steve

The audio jack connectors pins may have to adjusted with a small hook to close contacts to head phones or the head phone isn't push in far enough. You can get small spk's , at RS, that should work out of head phone jack instead of child getting twisted up in cord of head set, if he fell asleep.

Thanks 007. The situation is different: these players have IR head phones, probably for the reason you said, to avoid choking. I'm hoping they also have a built in speaker but cannot find out how to make it work, if it does. The manual hints that there is one but nothing works.

If they don't have a built in then I hope there is a way plugging in a speaker. Maybe they sell IR speakers that would work?

Thanks, Steve

We've always just used our headphones with those tvs. When you say "IR" headphones...is that infared ?? Ours are corded but have never been a problem. But the kids in our bunks are older....11 and 6. They have always taken the headsets off before falling asleep.

Hi there! Yes, IR is infrared...that's what these are. We'll figure out something...not a big deal. Where do your corded ones plug in? Wonder of they changed models.

Tell me about your TV: really don't like ours (a Jensen). Aside from being too small the viewing angle on this one is very limited...I can't watch it from the barrel chair. Also having trouble getting it to recognize cable channels. I've gone through all the setup procedures but it is not working.

We're going to do a shakedown with the "kids" in the Shenandoah's this weekend and try to figure all this out. Love the coach and looking forward to enjoying it: all day was moving an amazing amout of stuff from the 35 U to here. Steve

In the 2007, the tv is bigger..and above the dash. We have no problem viewing it from the sofa or dinette. The kids like to sit in the front chairs and recline in them to watch tv too. I did notice in the 2008 model they changed it to a smaller flat screen and moved it to above the hoop chair. Does is swivel out ?? We have an in-motion satellite so we haven't had any problems with channels. I asked the kids about their headphones and they said there is a spot in the ceiling they plug into.

I hope you have a great time on your shakedown trip !!

Nope, in our 2008, it is a small (19"?) Jensen flat screen over the dash. Both 35J's at our dealer's were the same....I've read (you among others) that a few months later that they moved it over the chair. It cannot be moved. A priority will be to swap this out, put in a larger one and maybe a rectifier too. Also, a new chair .

Don't mean to sound negative: this is a great coach and there are always compromises. The things we don't like are relatively minor. Getting the bunks and extra basement storage is fantastic! Thanks! steve

I read this question during a lunch break and then left town for a while, (still working)... I could not find the thread on this until just now. I think I have a solution for you. What I'm suggesting sounds a bit strange but it will work.... Radio Shack sells a small body aid style personal amplifier that has an output for earphones. The little box (old fashioned body aid hearing aid) has a built in microphone. Wrap the IR headphones tightly around the body aid getting the IR headphones as close to the microphone on the body aid as possible. Might need to turn up the volume on the IR headphones a bit. Then then run a male to female 1/8" cable from the ear phone jack on the body aid to an external speaker. I was shopping at Dicks Sporting goods and at the checkout stand saw an external IPOD speaker for less than 10 bucks. I bought to play my IPOD in the car listening to the external speaker. I drive an old beater that does not have an MP3 audio jack on the car radio...... The FM attachments for an IPOD that let you play your IPOD through the car stereo have never worked for me. Too much channel FM Drift where I drive. The speaker box comes with a 1/8" mini plug (male) that normally one would plug into the IPOD. In this case, you would plug a 1/8" male plug into the body aid so the microphone portion of the body aid picks up the IR audio signal. The female 1/8" of the audio cable would be connected to the IPOD external speaker. Sorry in advance for all the confusion I probably just created but it is an Audiology thing I guess :-)

I hadn't bothered to check how the kids will listen to the DVDs in our new Sunstar 32K. Better scout that out before our first trip or I could have some disappointed kids
