Where can I find the SD Card slot to update the GPS maps? is it the one on the front of the DVD player that is down low in the center of the console area?

Yes, that is it. Easier to deal with if you have the CD cover tilted up.

What size SD card is in your GPS. Mine came with a 4 gig which I needed to upgrade to a 8 gig. If you try and upgrade the 4 gig it will give you a phone number to call to get it upgraded. I called the number and they sent me the upgraded card for free. You have to send the 4 gig card back or they charge you. The new software is much improved.

Anyone know when the next Rand McNally map update will be available? My screen says map over a year old and the Dock software only seems to update construction db.

Map updates are available all the time. I put my SD card into my computer and check using the dock app. There is always something to update. Usually it is just construction updates but you could be missing a map update.

Every month I get a few files that need updates, but I am looking for the big (gigabytes?) update of the map. Would be nice to do when I have high speed internet.

Just got a new Winnebago Ellipse and the RM unit says it needs updated. Can I just update the SD card without hooking to my Ellipse (it's in the shop). That's what it appears.

Yes you need to update the SD card out of the unit. What size is your SD card? If you have the 8gig all you need to do is to install the Dock software in your computer, insert the SD card, and download any updates. When the update is done you reinsert the card. Make sure you do not write protect the SD card with the little slide switch on the card. Check out this youtube video

I went to the factory and got the card updated by them. That seemed to help but not fix the reset problem I've been having. I'm getting on screen messages just like a PC message. I'll be getting back to the factory on this.

I baught a 2 year old View fitted with Rand McNally GPS.
As I’m not the original owner - Rand McNally won’t update under their claimed update for life.
A disgusting business attitude. I will never ever do any form of business with such a company. I’ve bought a Garmin to see in my line of sight. Much safer.

Rand McNally’s GPS is updated online and when connected to their “Dock” program the gps or it’s SD card carries the authority to receive updates. There is no info, request for info or discussion about being a first owner or a twelfth owner. The GPS/SD card connected to the RM Dock program is all that is needed.
