RAM 1500 with air suspension

My new Ram 1500 with 4 corner air suspension not safe to tow trailer.
I have a 2019 RAM that has 4 corner air suspension.
Truck 5.7 Hemi, 8 speed trans, 3:92 rear end, 4x4. Love the comfortable ride I get until I hook my Winnie Plus 26RBSS to it and it is scary to drive. Trailer is not all that heavy and it towed fine with my GMC Sierra 1/2 ton but was sluggish on hills and that was reason I traded.

I don't know where I read it but I understand that there is a way to disable the air suspension while towing. Check with your dealer. Sure like my RAM 5.7 non-air suspension for towing our 2250DS.

Do I understand you to say you have same truck but not with air suspension? I can disable using tire jack mode while hooking up but suspension comes right back on after starting to drive. This truck is very unstable when driving and towing. Lots of sway and light on steering. It would be better with out the suspension package. I only have 2k miles and 4 short trips with the problem. maybe WDH causing problem

I am using this Husky hitch. I have towed over 24,000 miles with it and have never had sway or any other type of instability. I do keep the anti-sway bar pretty tight.

Not the same truck but similar. See my post on WDH.

Light on steering makes me think that you do not have enough weight transferred to the front wheels. This morning I was reading about how to set up the system for towing with the RAM air suspension. It said to put the RAM in the jack mode and hook up the trailer. Adjust the WDH just like you would without air suspension. That is the RAM level and the trailer level. Once this is accomplished you can turn the air suspension back on and the leveling that it does should be minimal since you started out with it level. Of course you have to have a WDH with good sway suppression.

That’s the same process as the GC with air suspension. It worked for me

You’re welcome. Hopefully you’ll get the WDH setup correctly and then enjoy your new truck.

It was not me with the problem, it was 1953Tbm in the first post. I wish him the best also with getting that new RAM worked out with his RV trailer.

I have a EAZLift 600lb and eazlift 1200lb same problems with both.
The hitch worked well with my 1/2 GMC which I traded in for the RAM.

How did you go about setting up your RAM and trailer? I have been trying to help you but you have not responded to my post on the recommended way to setup your system. If you would rather that I would butt out then say so.

I I talked with the manager and they might swap me for another truck without 4 corner suspension. I think when the weight gets up on the airbags it has just enough give to give a sensation of instability. I love this truck but can't live with this condition. Ram has no answer to anything I ask but seem willing to swap truck. I only have 2k miles so far.
The mushy ride the air suspension is only reason to get rid of truck.

Sorry I am new to answerback and I do like your input. I use a EAZ-lift WDH. I have 2 now a 600# and a 1200#. Believe me I have tried following the book exactly and I wind up with no squat and front Wheel well is reight at 36" before and after. After driving a bit the hitch seems to get higher. My truck is same as yours except I have 3:92 axel

I am ready to admit defeat and will give up this truck..maybe same truck w/o suspension

Seems to me that trading for a RAM without air suspension would be your best bet. I don't think you will ever be happy your present RAM. I don't think I would be either. I have driven Ford trucks all my life until 2014. At that time I bought a RAM with the Pentastar V6 and 8 speed transmission. We towed a 2101DS Minnie over 15,000 miles with it. This was a perfect combo but we wanted a larger trailer. Traded the V6 in on the V8. I am a RAM guy for the foreseeable future. Love em. Best of luck with your trade. Let us know how it works out.

2019 Ram 1500

Thanks to everyone who submitted help about my towing problem.
Checking around found that other trucks have tried various versions of air sway and trailer towing but not popular. I spent a couple of hours with a Dodge Service Manager of a very large Dealership in California and He could not find any info on the airbag suspension other than what is in the owners Manual.
He happened to be a long time Trailer Owner. He was using a Hensley Hitch so Apples and Oranges but a Very expensive Hitch. I will keep trying as like many interested Ram owners I really like the Truck and my 2012 GMC truck 1/2 ton pulled this Trailer just fine but was slow in the Hills.
I know a solution is possible but I would like it to be not too expensive. Another new Ram Bighorn is not cheap and I don't want to give all the Bells and whistles that this truck came with. I will test towing with my Sons 3/4 Dodge Tradesman and see how that does.
Thanks Again Bigbird65 and Birchy
