Project outside cook area

I was wanting a grill and an outside cook top burner that would mount on the camper. I decided on the Thermos/Char-broil 370 (same grill, different name). The lowest price shipped I found was around $145 on eBay, so I ordered it and it arrived promptly. There wasn’t much involved in assembly since I didn’t assemble the legs/cart.

We keep our sewer equipment in a plastic container in the storage area so the inside of the bumper was available for my use. I took a 4x4, cut it so it was a few inches narrower than the bumper, screwed a hook into one end, added a piece of rope to slide it out with and painted it. I made some simple brackets to mount on the bottom of the grill. I affixed them with 1/4” bolts and wing nuts for easy removal. I mounted them so they would slide snugly over the 4x4. I drilled holes through the brackets and 4x4 and used 3/8” bolts with wingnuts for easy attachment/removal.

I intend to delete the grills including regulator and run it off of the camper’s tanks. On the 28rbds the propane quick connect is located near the front of the camper. I intend to add another quick connect at the rear or to get a long propane extension hose with quick connections.

Here are some pics that show the details of the project.

I like the idea, where does the grill store when traveling? I thought of a receiver hitch mount with a couple nuts welded over some holes to insert T handle bolts to tighten the slack. The "drawbar" could be very thin and light and permanently attached to the grill and the receiver could be one of those $20 Harbor Freight receivers that comes welded to a steel plate for bolting on. I use those on my workbenches for vises and grinders and for my ring roller. Your idea is simple though and can be done with basic tools.

That’s a great mod! Nice work. I’d like to put a quick connect outlet at the rear also, the stove is in the way at the front.

Thanks guys. For right now the grill just goes in the bed of the truck. I actually drew out a couple alternative plans for mounting it on the bumper and having it swing out. But that’ll require me to get some steel, likely reinforce the bumper and possibly relocate the spare. We are going on a trip next week. So I came up with this as a temporary set up. But I may just keep it permanently.

As to the extra rear connect mine ought to be easy as both my furnace and water heat are back there. Knock on wood...

Hello all! Some really neat ideas on outside kitchen set ups. Much more stable than a small table. Not much weight added to the relatively wimpy bumpers. I reinforced my 27RBDS bumper after seeing a similar unit at dealership with back bumper twisted off! My owner's manual states max loading on bumper of only 75 lb! The spare mounted on bumper stock likely weighs nearly that much.

Please keep me appraised of new projects and ideas... appears this is a really talented group in this thread!

Thanks for the idea. I have a Smoke Hollow Grill that none of the bumper set ups would work on. I made this after seeing your post.

Looks great!

I did eventually add a rear quick connect to mine so I didn’t have to take an extra bottle.

Good idea, much safer than some of the stock set-ups that hang the grill or stove on the outside wall.

Thank you both. I have a small CharBroil electric grill, and the table idea is perfect! My next project.
