Minnie Winnie newbie

Lots of questions- learning as we go- never owned a travel trailer before. Tired of learning in trail and error mode

Question 1
Back ground-We recently brought home our trailer and we plan to go on our first camping trip near the end of April. To get started on the learning process I have plugged my 2014 Winnebago Winnie Minnie 2101 FBS for my first time into my home 20 amp plug. The trailer is 30 amp and i have a dog bone 30 amp to 15 amp and a surge protector in use. I have use a 100 foot 10 gauge extension cord. It worked just fine- lights, heater-frig- even the air conditioner seems to work at this point-I also was able to extend my pull out- Now my question. When I use any of these items, especially the lights a humming noise comes from the heater? The sound increases with each light we turn on? To my knowledge the heater is off. Anyone else experience this? Is this normal?

Congratulations on the Winnie Minnie. Great choice in travel trailer.

Are you sure it's the heater? You may be hearing the fan on the converter. I haven't noticed any fan noise in mine but yours being a 2014, the converter may not be original equipment. Plugged into 110v your converter is changing it to 12v. The more 12v you pull, turning on additional lights, your converter is working harder. I'm no expert but it's just a guess.

Power Converter

You are spot on with the Power Converter causing the sound-thanks for your help- Question 2 My 2014 Minnie Winnie 2101 FBS is winterize. If anyone is willing could you outline the steps to dewinterize? Question 3 If I don't plan on drinking water from my fresh water tank-can I fill it with my garden hose? Thanks ahead for any advise you can give.

To dewinterize, you just need to run fresh water thru your system and flush out the antifreeze in your lines. Check your hot water heater and make sure the bypass valves are set correctly so the hot water heater flushes out and fills. The RV antifreeze is not poisonous so just flush it out till it quits foaming in the sink.

You can sanitize your lines and holding tank by putting 1/4 cup of bleach per 10 gallons in your fresh water holding tanks. Then just run the bleach mixture thru your water lines and let it sit for 3-4 hours. Then flush your lines and holding tank with fresh water. Usually only done at the beginning of the season.

Yes, you can fill your holding tank with your garden hose. I'd let the water run thru the hose to clear out anything that may have crawled in there and made a home.

Very helpful

Thanks Badlands Bob- very helpful- and sounds easy- I'm unsure about the water heater I think it is opened /a plug put on from the outside and a level or something inside under a panal in the bathroom? - so I assume I must put the plug back on and turn something on under the panel? do I do this before I add water or after the anit-freeze has been drained-thoughts and thanks

Sorry for the delay. I've been out of town the last few days.

If you have a tank type water heater, there will be a plastic drain plug accessible from the outside panel. This plug will need to be installed before putting water pressure on the system. Don't over tighten the plug. It's plastic.

From the inside of the trailer, probably under your sink, there will be three valves. These valves are used to bypass water to your hot water heater so you don't have to use 6 gallons of antifreeze to winterize. You want to shut the by pass valve and open the two water supply valves to the hot water heater.

You can do this before or after draining the antifreeze from you lines. It won't make any difference.

I have a 2014 Winnebago 2101 FBS Winnie towable - and I wonder what fuses I should carry for backups? Also- If I shut off the trailer breakers and pull the fuses for the frig and lp detector, is that the same as disconnecting the battery -thanks for the help

If you want to carry spare fuses, check your breaker panel and just buy some duplicate fuses. They are just standard automotive fuses. 5-10-15 amp. Check in your front outside storage compartment for a battery disconnect. Should be a big switch with a red knob. That's where they put mine. It kills everything except the power to the slide out. If you don't have one, you can always disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery and that will kill everything. Flipping breakers and pulling fuses on a regular basis will wear on connections and may cause you problems after a while.

Thanks Badlands Bob for the fuse info-looks like mostly 20 amps and two odd ones I think are for the converter? not sure what I would do without this site and people like you. First trip out is early next week-we are pretty excited- only two nights but feel that will be a good start- a little state park with 30 amp electric only.

Enjoy the trip. You'll be much more comfortable with it after your first trip. We are heading out for a few days after this rain passes. Spring has sprung and we are getting itchy feet. I just bought a couple of those fancy zero gravity chairs at Sam's Club so we are looking forward to trying those out.

Well we dewinterized today- followed advice and directions provided by forum members and everything went just as promised. Only one issue, the shower leaks- I took the shower apart a cleaned etc. put back together and checked and still leaking. Can and should I just by a new one? Can I just get new washers or a trick or two I not aware of? too bad everything went so well until this.
Thanks ahead for help-

If it's shower hand held sprayer head your talking about, it's supposed to leak a little stream when you push the off button on the sprayer head. It keeps water circulating thru the head to avoid getting scalded and also reminds you to cut it off at the wall when done. If it's leaking somewhere else, it's not supposed to do that.

3 trips in and things going pretty well- 2014 Winnabago 2101 fbs minnie- several questions I hope irv2 members can help me with. 1. Why would i want a battery shut off in my camper? I have looked in pass through and under bed- none? 2. my awning has started to made noise when we retract it. Should I be lubricating it or is it a possible bigger problem? Thanks for everyones help to date-

There are several things in the camper that will draw down the battery if you don't have a shutoff or manually disconnect the battery. Smoke detector, propane detector, stereo, etc.

It's hard to tell about the awning without hearing it. Sometimes, they just make funny noises. As long as it is working smoothly, I don't worry about it too much.
