Goodbye Dinette 2017 2455 BHS

Well I am a new RV’er, & as of 9/1/18, , now she is my Full Time home.

I liked the big dinette (a little hard on the rear)., but after much reading, pins, etc ...& sitting in some neighbors Thomas Pane seats..... well, First big mod.

Going to Use the table top & post, to make pivoting TV trays for eating and laptop etc. I have 13” to the right, going to build a light weight 13 wide, by 24” tall, by 24-36” Deep cabinet for additional Cloths storage.

I'm sure those recliners are very comfortable but you sure loose a lot of valuable storage space.

And- they are heavier than a boxcar full of rocks which might not be good for the longevity of the slide mechanism.

As far as weight, Yeah it’s 185lbs. Being a Full-timer, I might only go mobile 6 times a year. I will be adding support, when stationary, to the slide. It even crossed my mind to move one seat off slide , to the kitchen floor, before I slide in or out. It’s on two screws (I can Mod later for quick release). I lost some weight without the table & the Dinette materials removed (especially the curved ends & 1/2 plywood platforms), really adds up. But Good looking out!

As for as storage, on the front side, I’ll be building a very light weight cabinet 12”wide X 32” long X 24” tall. I will be using a few 2x2 sticks & the paneling I uninstalled from the U shape dinette. I will be using the slide forward wall and outside wall as 2 sides. I am gonna go to Walmart or Amazon and get those 6 of collapsible 12X12X12” things and store jeans, throw blankets, Paper products, etc...no can food lol.

On the rear side, I will also build a 5”wide X 32” long X 24” tall storage. Very light 2x2 and again paneling. This will be to store TV trays & magazines only.

This will give me a gross loss of about 3 Sq. Ft.

That dinette loaded with storage "stuff" could have been as heavy as the recliners.

RR Mike I will be watching to see how that mod works for you, and the TV trays and storage you are going to do. We are going to either get a trailer with theater seats or one with a dinette and if we get a dinette my plan was to do just as you have done. We found out pretty quick that a dinette is not very comfortable for very long.

Well I will build a small 4 inch by 36 inch Cabinet on the Rear side of the slide. I was able to use the "Table top" for my Cabinet tops. I also used the materials I removed to Build this.

PS got some 11X11X10 folding storage squares to go in the Cabinet! I love it. As for TV trays, I am looking Computer TV trays. They have some, with Cup Holders and all. Just trying to find Black or unfinished so i can make it blend with my Interior.

Thanks to all. PS watching the weight and only storing light things in the slide cabinet. I feel that its a lot less weight then if I would have the Big U shape dinette and have all that storage Filled.
