Ford Pro Trailer Backup Assist

When our new 2108DS arrives next week, we will set up the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature on our F-150. After reading the instruction manual and watching Ford’s YouTube videos, the set up process seems pretty straightforward. However, things are not always as easy to do as they appear.

Any comments or suggestions from anyone who has already gone through this set up process are appreciated.

I have never used one, but from the commercials on TV, I must admit that I don't quite get it. Let us know what you think once you start using it.

I don't have it, wasn't an option on my model year, and likely would never use it. The only complaints I've heard about it is when you need to make tight turns or other situations where the target sticker is not relatively centered in the camera view. My driveway is an example where the only way to get the trailer in is to jackknife into a 9 ft wide drive and get straight with about 5 ft of maneuvering room in front of the truck.

One other thing I've wondered about is backing with a WDH. At home I always remove the bars and frequently do at campgrounds. As the WDH tends to counter act turns while backing does it throw off the backup assist? My guess is it does but who knows.

Today my wife and I set up the Ford Pro Trailer Backup Assist system for our Micro Minnie. It only took about 20 minutes and worked with the first try.

I experimented with it a few times and found it very easy to use. You simply turn the knob in the direction you want the trailer to go and the system steers the truck. If you want the trailer to go straight, you don’t have to do anything. Amazing.

I have a Micro Minnie 2108 DS and F-150 and the back up assist is a huge help for me. I am new to towing a trailer and without the back up assist I was really struggling to get the camper in my driveway. With the back up assist and some practice I can put it exactly where I want it.

It looks like a great system. Don’t get mesmerized by the technology and forget to keep an eye on your mirrors and the front of your truck, though!

I tend to scoff at modern gadgets and gizmos. However, once I learn how to use them, I wonder how I ever lived without them. Prime example, smart phone.

Haven't got the back up assist but the rear camera is a great help in my opinion. I can see more using it that I can looking over my shoulder and wider angles. Love it, but I always look over my shoulder and use my mirrors as well.

Technology just gets better and better.

My DWs new car has the new cruise control that matches her car's speed with the car in front of her. works great as well.

The back up assist and camera are both very helpful. My F-150 has the back up camera which helps me line up the ball with the hitch. The technology really helps hooking up the trailer and backing it up a lot easier.
