2108 DS- No Brakes

Hi everyone,
We just picked up our new 2108 DS yesterday and the electric brakes never came on all the way home. I adjusted the controller so it actuate immediately but not a sound out of the trailer brakes. The controller actuated manually but didn't create a sound from the brakes either.

Before I call the dealer I want to check the fuse/breaker but nothing is labeled brakes.
Does anyone know where thst would be on a 2108 DS?

Do all the lights work? If they do your ground must be good. Have you pulled other trailers with brakes? If yes, and if has been a while, use a small file or sand paper to remove oxidation from the brake position on you truck plug. Place to start anyway. Odds are on the truck and not a new trailer.

Great idea Tucontoy, it has been a few years since I used the plug, I'll try that.
Yes, all running lights work so ground is good.
There must be a fuse/breaker that controls the brakes somewhere though.

Just another thought. Even if your trailer is unpluged, pull the emergency brake cable at the trailer tongue. The trailer battery should activate the brakes. It just helps to zero in on the problem.

Yes, that should help eliminate things.

The trailer tows great though. and the Blue Ox eliminates any sway, even from a Semi

What model and year of truck? Depending upon this might be able use a volt meter to see what the voltage is on the brake line. The reason I say might is the newer Ford F-150's don't activate the line unless they detect the trailer brakes so you just can't measure the pins anymore. You could also pickup a connection tester similar to this from your local auto parts store.

What a great tool! It should be in every trailer owners tool box.

I ordered one tonight. I'll check it when it comes in on Saturday.
My tow vehicle is an '07 Ford EXPLORER LTD with a 4.6L V8
thanks for the advice.

Hidden Breaker

Bill Plemmons RV in Winston Salem had a great Tech who went right to It!
Under the 2108DS, inside the A frame is a junction box which has a reset button (breaker) in it that controls the brakes.

Who knew?

It must have been tripped when it left the factory. because we put 100 miles on it and they worked fine.
All is good, love the trailer!

That's good to know about the breaker. I haven't used Bill Plemmons in Winston-Salem but the one here in Raleigh and have been satisfied with their service. They handled warranty work on our previous Forest River product trailer after the dealer we bought from botched some PDI repairs. It was this service that gave them the lead when buying the our 2106FBS.

Yes, they seem like they have a knowledgeable service department.

Checking brake operation with the emergency breakaway is a good idea.

Possibly the brakes have not been adjusted if they are drum type.
