22M CAMCO Counter Extension & Ladder Placement

Picture of our Camco 43421 Oak Accents Countertop Extension w/ hardware 12" x 13.25" purchased for $34 and $12 for 4 stainless steel clips to mount the ladder out of the way.(We relocated the fire extinguisher to the dinette area closer to the stove Have 2 more clips but not needed, ladder is secured well enough to use as a handrail so now we have 2 handrails.

Nice job. Can you get in/out door with counter extension up?

I like ladder relocation but we have hooks there for dog leashes.

No problem getting out with the counter extension in the table mode. Wasn't too hard to mound but had to put wood behind the paneling where the piano hinge is to make sure it never fails.

The Camco countertop is a great option. Mounting under the existing countertop eliminates the need to match the contour of the existing counter.

Regarding the ladder relocation with four spring clips, I would be cautious to advise others to use it as a full-load handrail. To qualify, a handrail must be capable of taking 200 pounds of horizontal force, and if that were the case, you could not get a broom-clipped ladder off the wall. I did use cam locks on my ladder, and while I believe it carries the 200 pound test load, I have not actually tested it.

I did the exact same mod to our 22M using the Camco Flip up extension. But rather than screw it into the bulkhead I fabricated a ninety degree angle bracket out of 3/4 inch stock. I screwed that up into the counter overhang and the Camco support legs into the down side of the bracket. This way I haven't put any holes into the kitchen bulkhead so the next owner can remove it (if they choose to)without having to worry about any screw holes to fill. We also added a matching Camco sink top cutting board. We find we only were really using one sink so we have effectively doubled our counterspace. Lack of counterspace is perhaps the biggest fault with the 22M layout, but we feel we have solved that issue.

I'm about to install my own Camco extension on my 22M, but in reading your post, I'm trying to visualize what you have done. Can you post a photo or two of what you did?

Thanks!
