Where did the Itasca Horizon go?

We just bought our first DP - a 2006 Itasca Horizion 40KD - and wondering why the Horizon is no longer in the product line.

Manufacturers come up with new lines and discontinue old ones, but sometimes only temporarily. The Brave is back... I suppose they feel the old name gets stale, or perhaps the old named units had some issues that they hope rebranding will cure.

Where did the Itasca Horizon go?

It's with the Winnebago Vectra, I think: in "brand name suspension." Every-once-in-a-while manufacturers will rest their brand names. Because the legal hurdles of trademark are already behind them, retired brand names will often re-appear later. Sit tight ... you will likely see the "Itasca Horizon" brand again! \ken

KD4XR,
Well, Sir, we have a close, sister ship to you. Ours is the '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the C-7 330HP CAT and Allison MH3000 Trans. We love it. Other than a few pain in the a$$ repairs here and there, it's been a great rig. I've done quite a bit on it so, If you've got any questions on it, don't hesitate to ask. Yep, I too have wondered why they vacated the name. It's been gone for a while. I'm not sure what the last year for it was. I know that for around '04 or '05, I'm pretty sure it was the top of the line model for Itasca and was equal to the Vectra in Winne.

Wasn't the Journey the Winnebago twin to the Horizon in that time frame? The Winnebago high end in 04 was the Ultimate Freedom ...it was the last year for the Ultimate line ... Advantage & Freedom.

While we're at it, what's the comparable Itasca to my 06 Winnie Tour? And where did it "rank" in the lineup?

Gang,
I could be wrong here but, I thought in '04, the VECTRA & HORIZON were the top two then, the JOURNEY and MERIDIAN were second and I Forgot the third down set. I'd have to go back to my stored brochure to verify what I'm saying. I've got friends who have both Journeys and Meridians of my year and newer and both are not nearly as well equipped and accented as our Horizon. But it could just be the way they were all ordered.

Our '04 Horizon has the slide-out generator whereas I've never seen that on a Journey or a Meridian.

2006 was the first year for the Tour and Ellispe. Both ranked just behind the Vectra and Horizon
2009 was the last year for the Vectra and Horizon. They were replaced as the top of the line by the Tour and Ellispe
As stated above Winnie seems to run some brands for a few years and then replaces them. Voyage, Destination, Lattude, to name a few

Hi KD4XR
Like the rest of us owning the wonderful Itasca/Horizon, we too wonder why.. i've tried to search.. but i've seen mixed info.. but i think that our good friends Scott and DepChief are correct...Horizon/Vectra replaced by the Ellipse and Tour.I have the same as you, but an '05. Other than inside color/fabrics, i didn't see much difference in the specs. i hope you'll enjoy it as much as I and my DW enjoy ours. Like Scott, I too have made many mods, so ask away. Living up here in NH, mine is sadly sleeping for the winter now..
I am already planning the mods for next spring. Can't wait for our first 2015 trip!!

When we bought our Horizon in 04 the dealer told us that Winnie upscaled the Horizon and the entry level DP was then the Journey/Meridian and the Horizon was the equivalent to the Vectra. The last year the Horizon showed up was in 2009. I'm not certain whan the Ultaaite disappeared but I think it was the same timeframe.

I agree. The Horizon and Vectra were the flagships. The Horizon later became the Ellipse, the Vectra, the Tour....I think????

Looking at the Winnebago site in 2005 they had the Horizon/Vectra as their flagship coaches and the Journey /Meridian as their entry level DP. In 2006 they added the Tour/Ellipse to the lineup as mid-line coach.
