We Need Your Advice Please

My lovely wife and I just retired and ready to stop camping in our two person tent. We are looking at 34 foot Journeys from 2009 or 2010. Nice size with good amenities and like the diesel pusher. Not interested in a gas coach.

Any of you nice folks who have owned one - please tell us if this is the right direction or should we be looking at other coaches?

Thanks very much
Liz and Bruce

Newmar is another well built coach.
We considered one before buying our Journey 36'.
Sure don't seem like we have had it a month now.

We've had our Journey for many years now and enjoy it. Just got back from a weeks trip to northern Wisconsin.

Hi Guys
We have a 2013 36M and after getting the full walls slide wall deamons
fixed we love it. Just completed a 27 state 8000 mil trip and never had a hard time finding a parking place due to size and never felt cramped. If you stick with Winnebago,Tiffen or Newmar I thank if you find the floor plan you like you should by ok.

lizandbruce : if the sellers have all the paperwork from maintaining/servicing the RV that may save you from having to going thru all the replacement of filters and fluids in the near term. This can really add up. Also check the tires to be sure they are not original. The life of tires is not always based on mileage but amount of years they have been on RV....wife and I have only had our 2006 Journey since May, but it is a beautiful coach that appears to be well built. Good luck in acquiring your "baby".

i have an '09 34Y, and think it is a superior unit to the '10. Mainly because the transmission is a 3000 vs the 2500 in the '10. Towing and increased hp hurts the smaller transmissions. Standard on the '09 was the aluminum wheels too.
Mine is currently for sale, will definitely regret selling, but want to see what the 45' coaches are like. Have kept this RV is the best shape possible, all records, and logs for everything done. Please let me know if you are interested. here's the link: https://www.rvt.com/Winnebago-Journe...92580-UX195587

We bought a new 2011 34y in 2013. We have put 26,000 miles on it and love it as much today as we did when we bought it.

My wife and I have an 04 Jouney 34H and love it! Never had any issues, replaced the TV's with LEDTV, and VCR with a BlueRay DVD, batwing antenna with the Wineguard Rayzar Automatic antenna, and installed a WeBoost cell phone range extender and the WiFi Ranger and we've been rolling ever since.
JOURNEYCAT, we're in Tampa and have a friend looking, any chance you can email me ([email protected]) some pics of yours for a friend here?

We bought a 2011 Meridian 34Y in the spring of 2015. 3 summers and nearly 30k miles later we still love the coach. This is our 4th MH since 1999 so we have a good bit of experience to base our feelings on. The only regret we have is that the coach came with the buffet/dining table configuration. As we start traveling with grand children having a dinette would have added some needed sleeping space. Since we normally travel alone it's not a big deal.
Go to the Winnebago web site and browse the brochures from the years of interest then off to RV Trader to get an idea of what is available.

Congratulations! The only problem I am having with retirement is finding time. Too many places to go. This is the best job I ever paid to do.

I can't speak directly about that coach. I can say that folks with the under 36' rigs seem to fit into the state and national parks better than I can with my 40'er.

The pre '08 rigs seem to be better built. After the RV world crashed and burned in the recession the surviving manufactures all seemed to give up quality control in favor of making money. Winnebago is starting to make improvements but there is plenty of room for more in all aspects of the company.

If you are happy with the floor plan and features than this coach is right for you. Are you happy with the location of the TV? Do you have enough storage for your needs? Will it carry the weight of all your stuff? Are the tires fairly new (5 or less years) to get some service from them before replacement? Generator run hours is another important factor. More is better. Miles on the coach are important. All vehicles tend to suffer if not driven enough. Long periods of sitting cause things to loose lube on the contacting surfaces and this is bad when they move for the first time after sitting.

With all that said, many folks get great deals on vintage RV's and they serve them fine for many years. One thing you can count on. All RV's have periodic problems. It's a house built on an earthquake. Looking at if from that aspect, they tend to hold up fairly well.

Enjoy your research. You can look at the sale brochure in Resources here: https://winnebagoind.com/

Wiring and plumbing diagrams are available also.

Happy trails,
Rick Y

Try to avoid the Schwintek slides in the age range you're looking at. They seem to be nothing but trouble.

Husband and I bought a 2004 34 foot Journey last year. We have taken two three month cross country trips and love the quality and floor plan. We would recommend a Journey.

Jim is right on. I don't know if Schwintek has FIXED the problem but a good portion of the rigs at last hears GNR were in the shop have the latest fix done to their rigs. I talked with a few not so happy folks after the fix was done. I hope folks in this forum will start a topic on this topic to bring us all up to the latest results of "the fix".
