Warning Journey owners Dash Air

Our dash air has been failing and went out last week. After trouble shooting with Frigette, we took it to a local RV/truck center to have the system charged. Found the leak, Winnebago had routed the hot AC hose on top of the turbo charger and it was split open about 4 inches from the heat. From underneath you can see the hose but not that it is routed with in inches of the turbo charger. They took a 4 foot piece of hose and routed it away from the turbo. You may want to check yours as this was an expensive fix.

I just got my 2005 Meridian back from the Freightliner dealer. They said the coolant line had laid down on the exhaust pipe and had melted through. They covered it under warranty.

I found my A/C hoses pulled up through the frame in the front of the MH so that they would rub against the sharp edge of the the frame. I placed a large hose over the point of contact to absorb the cutting action. Had the coach for 4 years now and no problem with the dash air. It cools fine. Stupid mistake that could have caused a loss of the compressor.

Just wondering exactly how did they fix it. Did they splice the new hose? How expensive was it ??

Beabop-It is my understanding that the chassis builder installs the dash air per the coach mfg's specs therefore any warranty work on the system should go back to the chassis builder. Does anyone out there know for sure which builder (chassis or coach)is responsible??

They spliced the new hose with special clamps. 2 hours labor, $65 an hour here, hose, $20,2 splicers $14 , some AC oil,crimp shells,4() $20,4 (lb ???)freon, $64, he has special tools for the clamps, Total $271.72 Requires taking the cover off under the bed. Our system had zero freon in it. Not a real expensive fix but un-needed if it had been done correctly in the first place.

I have a similar problem with my 02 Horizon. Camping world wanted to replace the whole 40 ft length of hose. They charge $109/hr and it would have taken them a looong time. I said "NO Thanks". I will now take it to a truck center and have the hose spliced.

Chief, tec support told me he was 99.9% sure that Winnebago routed that hose. Perhaps if we had gone to a dealer, Winnie may have paid for it. But with the milage, time, and aggravatiom from past experience we had it done locally. We know that an outside vendor would have had to repair it. If Winnebago would not have covered it, we would have paid $100 an hour for diagnostics plus a vendor and fuel. When the local dealer couldn't reline our slide and it had already been to Forest City where they hadn't fixed it properly , we drove 130 miles to another dealer that W recommended and after several weeks, we called HWH and they SAW that the guides were replaced . The leak was documented and if we have any compressor probs because of it then we will go the dealer route.
