Vista 30T 2014 excessive wind noise

Hi, this is my first post to the forum. We purchased our 2014 Vista 30 T about 6 months ago, and it is our 4th motorhome. I do a lot of mechanical work myself, and have already done the CHF, which I found to be amazing. Not too many problems on this coach yet, but in the 6 months or so we have owned it, we have put over 11,000 miles on it. Most of our problems were just understanding the new systems. I searched hundreds of posts of this forum to see if anyone else has experienced this. Our BIG problem is the wind NOISE coming from the front of the coach. It is intermittent. It sounds like it is coming from the trim around the windshield, and my wife thinks it is from the passenger side, but it sounds to me like it is from the driver side. When I say NOISE, I mean really LOUD, like 100db, that will cause your ears to ring after a while. The source seems un-defineable, but it is somewhat dependent on vehicle speed, and wind direction. I am able to reduce it somewhat, or at times entirely, by taping with wide blue tape, around the hood gap at the windshield (WS) and up the sides of the WS. The last time though, we were headed west in Iowa going against a 30mph wind off our left side, and it couldn't and wouldn't be stopped. The sound is similar to a buzz, or like a Kazoo, and can be intermittent or constant. Due to the volume of the sound, and the level of "ear ringing" this caused, I am sure this could cause permanent hearing damage. I have attached 8 x 10 glossies as evidence, and a sound recording (video, no image, for sound only). Please Help!

"Vista excessive noise" sound recording

Hi, apparently I exceeded my allotted time to post an attachment to my post, so I have attached it here. The sound is actually at a lower frequency than the recording, because it was recorded on an iPhone, which isn't the best way to record something, but it's what we had.

Are you missing the covers over the weep holes along the 2 side windows? They can make a lot of noise.

Wind noise, weep holes

I don't know if I am missing the weep hole covers-are they the rubber stops at the glass, or are they something that actually covers the weep hole slots?

I have a 31BE and the wind noise is definitely more when the wind is just right. I need to put a little dab of silicone in the weep hole covers (one rattles). It also sounds like the driver’s side vertical trim on the leading edge vibrates.

I can't tell from your photo - but missing weep hole covers on your drivers/passenger side windows makes a HUGE amount of wind noise and is a common problem on Winnebagos.

I took a closer look, and there are 2 weep hole covers on the drivers side, but none on the passenger side. Now I know what they look like. Do they have to be ordered from Winnebago, or an aftermarket place?

I bought mine on Amazon. On my Adventurer there are separate covers for Left and Right sides. So, pay attention to that.

If you want to test if that's the noise - put some clear packing tape over the uncovered holes and take it for a drive.

You'll be shocked at the difference. Those little holes make a huge noise.

Hi,
I have 4 weep holes with covers on each side window on my 2016 30T. Several were missing when I purchased it used. I replaced them and found that a couple had been knocked off again when I had the RV washed/waxed. This has happened twice. I now carry extra ones with me. I got mine from a Winnebago dealer. They usually have them in stock because this is a common problem. I hope that this is causing your loud sound. Good luck.

Pop the covers off and apply a small amount of clear silicone adhesive to the bottom of the cover, then reinstall. Seems to work well.

Yes, weep hole covers did the trick for our 2015 Via.

When my wife first brought home the RV (she bought so she drove it first) she thought the windshield was falling out.

Weep hole covers. Buy some extras.

weep hole covers

I was sure that I had a leaking seal somewhere, and eventually took our 27N back to winnebago for repair. Yes it was the weep hole covers. I went ahead and bought some extra's, thinking they were a $1.50 or so, cheap compared to the problem not haveing them create. Keep in mind they are left side, right side senitive. A small dab of silicon will help keep them in place.

Covers

I kept losing my covers, so I put a drop of super glue on the top edge. Have not lost another one yet. To find out it was the cause of the noise, I put electrical tape over the weep holes and took it for a ride.

The wind noise on ours was caused by the passenger side mirror.
It had three (I think) very obvious allen screws that I loosened which allow the mirror head to pivot. I turn it just a bit so that more of the inside edge of the mirror faced forward, and less of the back - this made the mirror stop less air, and deflect less of the air directly onto the side of the coach.
The change made a BIG difference on ours.

Had same problem with 2012 Vista 30T. The weep hole covers really help. Also had problem with Front side windows and screens vibrating, especially in head or cross winds.
Glued plastic strips to side of window where it slides in Frame about half way up. The strip was just thick enough so it and the window fit in the frame. I also filed a bit of taper to the strip to allow smooth fit of window and strip in the frame. This reduced most of the vibration. Moving the screens slightly to stop them vibrating also helped.

Gerhague, I see you had a Vista 30-T, but now have a Journey 36, did you just need more room, or was there some problem with the 30-T? I am hijacking my own thread here.
