Vista 27PE...no "headlights on" alarm
Our 2018 class A does not sound an alarm when I forget to remove the keys from the ignition and the headlights are on. I can't seem to remember to shut the darn lights off. Anyway, is this standard for RVs or a problem? There is also no headlights on indicator in the dash instrument cluster. These seem to be standard features on most cars, but not sure about RVs. Any thoughts? I'll be emailing Ford and Winnebago, but thought I'd ask you all first. Thanks!

I think that is normal since these are trucks, not cars. We rarely drive the MH and need headlights but would have plans to add a hedlight alarm in the future. We always leave a key in the ignition so that is no problem for us.

Ford F53 does not have a integrated headlights alarm. One thing you can do to make sure nothing runs down the chassis battery is to turn off the chassis switch when you park your RV. Only thing you lose is the Ford info display trip mileage.

I try to drive with the headlights on at all times. As a "double check" of sorts I'm trying to train myself to look at the light switch as part of the instrument cluster scan. Its not quite automatic yet but I have caught myself forgetting to turn them on.

Akeagle,
Our headlights on our 2015 come on automatically and turn off when we turn off the ignition, I'm surprised yours don't

Do you have a Ford E-Series chassis?
Oops, never mind, your Vista is a Class A, right?

Yes a Class A gasser. Our 2001 MDT had headlights that went on/off automatically. I would have assumed a 2016 Van would have that as a requirement. Guess not.

Yep. I love Fords, but I do grumble a little bit about the lack of amenities in the cutaways they supply to the RV builders.

I thought it was the law that headlights had to come on/off. I guess I am wrong. LIve and learn.

It might be a requirement for cars and SUVs, but safety requirements for trucks and non-car vehicles always seems to lag several years behind .

Ford and/or Winnebago will confirm your observations. There is nothing wrong with your RV. Likely a chassis feature, not a coach feature, that is not there.
Our 2010 Vista 32k does not have a warning buzzer for lights left on. I did my own, got the info off one of the RV forums.
If you are handy and have some tools and the desire:
Use a common 5-pin relay to provide power to a 12v buzzer of any kind.
For a 5 pin relay (the numbers are marked on the relay). I used a Bosch.
86 - 12V from any source hot only when the key is on
87 - Not used for this application (leave open)
87A - Battery Ground
85 - Battery Ground (connections from 85 and 87A can be wired together
before connection to ground)
30 - Ground side of the buzzer
I used a common buzzer with only two wires. The red wire goes to the headlight switch. You can use the dash light connection or headlight. I used the dash light connection. The parking light connection could be used unless you have an older car/truck where the parking lights do not come on with the headlights (prior to about 1963). The black wire (ground) on the buzzer goes to pin 30 on the relay as shown above.

Those lights are daytime driving lights only. The tail lights and marker lights are not on unless you turn on the headlight switch.
